I completely agree, but I just can't imagine what it is when courts will almost always rule in favor of the best interest of the child....and I don't understand where the child benefits from this at all.

Seems like a half-story but if true, complete and utter BS. That's why you always wrap it up....

If you watch the story it says he was originally behind on his payments due to his wages not being garnished properly. Once he found out he paid in full and accidentally overpaid.

He also claims that he was never told about his visitation rights changing. While it may seem crazy that a person could get into trouble for visiting their kid too much, there is possibly a good reason his access was restricted and he could be flat lying about not knowing the terms changed.

The news anchor also mentions he walked out of court before everyone was excused once he was found in contempt.

He probably got the jail time for walking out on the judge.

It's not unheard of for attorneys or judges to violate procedure.

ETA: or ethics

Something isn't being reported correctly.
Listen to the video.
His wages were being garnished. If your timely on payments your wages aren't garnished.
He didn't know about two different court orders? Maybe he no showed on those court sessions.
At the end of the video it sounds like his six months is for contempt of court.

He got up and walked out of court. That's what he got sentenced to jail for. Not overpaying or seeing his kid too much. The judge has even said he can appeal the decision and she can reassess her judgment, likely wants an apology and for this guy to stop acting an arse.

I'm sure policestateusa.com only has completely neutral, unbiased, and fact-based reporting.

What a joke. He'll be released ASAP with a big apology from the state now that the story's out.

Now for the rest of the story.
quote:

'I discovered for some reason his employer was withholding a large amount some weeks a small amount some weeks a zero amount some weeks,' Elam tells MyFoxHouston. Hall, saying that he 'didn't want to go to jail, basically,' paid the $3,000 balance on his child support bill prior to a November hearing in front of Judge Lisa Millard in November. At the time of the hearing, Hall owed nothing. 'Opposing counsel testified twice that he's all paid up,' says Elam.

quote:

However, the attorney for Hall's ex-wife argued that he should be required to pay an additional $3,000 for his ex's attorneys fees. Judge Millard agreed.

quote:

Judge Millard, however, says that when she found Hall in contempt of court, he got up and walked out of the courtroom - which is enough to anger any judge. Millard says Hall's attorneys can file a motion for reconsideration, which would allow her the opportunity to hear from both parties and reassess her decision. Hall's attorney currently is working on an appeal

The "secretly modified" terms, i'm not sure I'm buying that.

Ahhhh, this. The article on Reddit had a title saying almost the same thing. So many jimmies are rustled over a misleading title.

Not always. I used to work with someone who had to pay child support, once the divorce was final they started garnishing his wages the following payday.

I am betting there is a lot more to this story than what we are seeing....if I had to guess, I'd say the dude probably got nasty with the judge and SHE hammered his arse...

From what I understand from some other articles he had his employer withhold a set amount for child support each month, but there was an issue with the admin side of his employer screwed up and he became behind. When he was alerted to it, he quickly paid to catch himself up.

At the end of the video it sounds like his six months is for contempt of court.

Being behind on CS or not following your custody agreement is considered contempt. I would have walked out on her arse too. frick this judge.

I saw this Snopes article on Facebook today.

He went to jail for not paying child support, the last payment was a back payment.
