Remember the story on here?

LINK

quote:

Don Meyer allegedly pointed a loaded semi-automatic assault rife at the chest of Constable Clarke Steele as they argued over an order to vacate on January 11.

Steele fired one round, which struck the 57-year-old father in the arm and then pierced the chest of his daughter, Ciara, who was hiding behind him. She died at the scene.

quote:

Prosecutors upgraded charges against Meyer on Thursday. He now faces counts including criminal homicide, involuntary manslaughter, aggravated assault, endangering the welfare of children and illegal possession of weapons.

quote:

Several eviction orders had been issued against Meyer, authorities said, and he had been notified by telephone that a constable was on the way to serve him with another notice.

By law, Meyer was not allowed to possess firearms because he had previously been involuntarily committed to a psychiatric facility, authorities said. Constables who responded to the shooting said they confiscated five weapons at Meyer's home.

quote:

Ciara's family blames her father for her death and they support the district attorney's decision to prosecute him for homicide.

bad things happen when you point a gun at a cop.

Her death was a direct result of her father's behavior. I have no issue with the father being charged.

The guy can already be charged for pointing the rifle at the deputy. In Louisiana that's a felony and probably there too. He has to live with being responsible for the girl's death, and his family blames him for it. Is it really necessary to try to put him away forever? Seems like piling on.

No one benefits from him being locked up for several decades.

It's not like he has a daughter that will need him around or anything.

Let him sit in jail and think about that for the rest of his life.

I think most crime should be punished in a restitutive nature, with the exception of habitually violent criminals.

Why isn't the cop charged? Did he not know the daughter was behind him? Why was the cop loaded with cop killers instead of hollow points? What is he some kind of billy badass thinking he's gonna have an OK corral style shootout with a bunch of bullet proof vest wearing bank robbers. Oh and also, he's not even a real cop, he's a constable.

Not saying, the father doesn't deserve some fault, but let's not act the like the constable shouldn't be charged with something.

Do you need to know the race of either of the kids involved to form an opinion? Is that what you're hinting about?

No need to race bait in here. Go back to sucking on the Poli board
