If I owned one of these parks everyone that checks into the parks needs to be weighed and given a wristband with their weight printed on it. Then they will check that at the rides that have clearly labeled weight limits on the front.

If they want to ignore that and get in line anyway then they will have to deal with the humiliation.

Yes, yes she is.

As an aside:

A 200lb weight limit on a ride at an American amusement park seems like bad bidness. You're cutting out a third or more of your potential customers before you even open the gates.

Especially one dubbed "Mississippi Monster".

I agree with pretty much all the posts in this thread but this. I feel like they could have at least mentioned the weight limit before she got up there and had to get in a scale. There are 110 pound 13 year girls who think they’re fat and wouldn’t wanna be weighed in front of people

200+ 13 year olds is rare even by Mississippi standards

“To have a company be responsible for such a massive mental impact on my daughter, it’s tough,” says her father, Andrew Batton.

yep, gotta be the company's fault.

Definitely less embarrassing to have an article written about it.

Exactly, his daughter was so embarrassed that some people saw it so he decides to tell the whole country in a news article. This guy is a bad parent for getting his girl that big and for being interviewed for this story.

The water park has to do what it has to do for safety. This dad should have just walked her off the ride and refocused her attention on to other fun activities at the water park.

Her parents are responsible for this. No one else.

Dawg what

I didn't hit 200 pounds until I was 18 years old, and I'm a rather tall individual.

How the hell does a 13 year girl do that?

no kidding.

I mean even somebody like Drew Brees who is neither fat, nor ridiculously ripped with muscle weighs over 200 and he's like 5' 11"

I saw this porno when I was about 17. It still gives me nightmares of inadequacy.

I would virtually guarantee that any such sign would be useless. Any family negligent enough to let a 13yo girl get that heavy and clownish enough to complain to the press about this would delude themselves into thinking she’s “only” 180 pounds or whatever and that “she should be fine.”

the scale was at the top of the stairs and not the bottom. But a few flights of stairs may have been something she needed.

If she just went up and down the hill a few times and ate a salad for a couple days, then she would be able to ride the ride.

i assume its a kids ride. I also assume the designers of a kids ride didn't anticipate an adolescent hippo expecting to ride their ride and thought 200 was adequate.

There is a great episode of the Simpsons where Homer gets stuck in one of the tubes of the Mt. Splashmore. Great episode.

Good. If this ushers in a lifestyle change, it was worth it.
