I think it is good for people to travel and see different places and experience different cultures. Of course no one should be forced to, but IMO it makes you more well rounded.

Of course it can get very expensive, but you can actually see a ton of places for not too much money if you want. Driving (or even taking a bus), staying at a campground or a hostel are relatively affordable. And lots of times the coolest things to see are free or cheap (museums, historic sites, neighborhoods, etc).

no kidding.

we had to send hem to Raceland for something at work and they had absolutely no clue how to get there.

i'm talking about a drive of less than 15 miles and you would have sworn we asked him to drive to Nicaragua or something.

I swear he would have bought his kids a T-shirt as souvenirs from a gas station if they sold them.

i had the pleasure of driving my son to Utah last year.

from Albuquerque to damn near Salt Lake City we took all regular highways instead of interstates.
clipped very Southwest corner of Colorado then almost entire height of Utah from South to North.

Northwest New Mexico was much more scenic than i imagined.
And the arches and red rocks in southern Utah are way better than pictures could ever capture.

outside of Moab, UT there is a road that follows the Colorado River. Sorta like a mini Grand Canyon.
added an hour and a half (the wrong way) to our trip, but was absolutely worth every second of the drive and every drop of gas we burned.

As a kid, we never went anywhere. Dad was self-employed and he couldn't leave anyone else in charge. On the few occasions he did, he would return to chaos.

Oh, and also he was a control freak.

The poli board is nothing but a bunch of "soys".. Or as I like to say.. pussies.

They are all idiots and are quick to call people "soy boys" and "snowflakes", but the second you prove some of their bullshite wrong they are RAing you and complaining about wanting you off the board.

My brother has never been to Europe or anywhere outside North America and has no desire to.
Would rather spend a week on north Padre than go to florida, too.

This isn't uncommon. Most people have never been overseas.

Yeah but people get their opinions clouded by being around middle to upper class people that travel frequently.

My mother in law traveled with both her first and second husbands. When her second husband died she told me she was not living out of a suitcase ever again. She may stay the rest of her life in BR watching the crime when she has the means to travel or move.

.I spent a year in Iceland and many guys never left the base the entire year, just sit around and bitch about what a shithole Iceland was.

Same thing in Germany. Guys stayed in their dorms and never left base the entire two years. I saw France, Amsterdam, Italy, Switzerland, Austria and Denmark.

Not uncommon for older folks around here. Less likely with the younger crowd, but my podna who is almost fitty has never flown.....and they don't take many vacations (with money to do so).

I've flown once. didn't care for it. I prefer to drive and see things that you would otherwise miss out on seeing. I am leaving Saturday to make the drive to east Tennessee with the boat in tow. Can't really carry that on.
