Family in Need

I have been a member of this board for years and know that when there is someone in need y'all support them. I am a NOLA native transplanted into the ATL. A friend I work with has had a super rough last 4 months.
She and her husband have two kids and are in their early 30s. In October her husband started having headaches. He had a tumor on his brain. They did brain surgery to remove the tumor. The tumor is still there and he has some processing delays but it was a good outcome.
In November their 14 month old started not being able to walk. They went to the doctor and eventually discovered he had a Neuroblastoma, cancer on his adrenal gland. They did surgery and removed the gland and so far so good. His bone marrow scans came back clear.
I am reaching out because they are a young couple, both teachers, and just have been dealt a bad deck. On the day they found out about the brain tumor, she found out she was pregnant for their third. Her husband is not back full time yet and the medical bills are mounting. I am attaching a link to a gofundme they have started.
Chicken, if this is not the place, please whack it. But I know Tiger Nation has come through in the past.

Oh Lord that is tough to hear. They are in my prayers.

Done.
As a young father who just had his first child who we were told we couldn't have... Then being told we're opening you up immediately during a follow-up of a routine procedure and unkowing of the outcome and 4 months of a colostomy bag and reversals and collapsing on the driveway, being told I'd have to quit my job (didn't have to. Great surgeon)cause of the physicality of it.
Hits home man. I sure hope your friend and his family do ok. It's hard to heal stressed the frick out.
You lay in a hospital long enough you realize just how much trivial shite there is in the world. My life is so much better after with shedding all the bullshite that robs your life.
There is no time for bullshite.

Somehow, someway, America needs to figure out how to not let its citizens get into this burden.
"Free health care" is such a political hot button, too many folks will quickly side on one way or the other. But, IMO, the ones that will typically side with the "leave it privatized" don't pay anything more than a paycheck deduction or small co pays anyway.
But, on the other hand, this country isn't ready to handle free care to every sniffling abuser of the system.
I just really think that no one should be burdened with having to remortgage their homes, beg on Facebook, or whatever to gather funds to pay for the exorbitant medical bills for a 14 month old in times of dire need.

We could do like Europe and Canada and delay seeing a doctor until you die, but at least you won't anything. There used to be something called Charity Hospital where these people could get treated. And before everyone tells me what an a** I am, speak to people that have actually been to/worked in these socialized health systems.

Agree.
Go visit St. Charles Surgical Hospital. It is full of patients from "socialized" countries, especially Canada.
Socialized medical plans are crap.

I entered this thread looking to make a smart arse comment. I left this thread clicking the link and donating some money. That's horrible and I pray everything works out for them.

It's a serious problem when GoFundMe is one of the largest health insurance plans in the US.

Even if you have good insurance, out of pocket expenses can be tough, esp. when you're hit with several major illnesses at one time.
Every person you meet is fighting a battle.
It never hurts to help someone.

Let me preface by this. I never EVER make donations to any of these. But this one tugged at the strings. Done and donated.

You are correct. The entire situation is outrageous, unacceptable and getting worse every year.
The Politicians, Doctors, Big Pharma and Insurance Companies are not hurting and could all care less.
Until the politicians are forced to pay for the health care available through ObamaCare, NOTHING will change. All of the CORRUPT CRIMINALS in CONgress need to be forced to pay 100% of the $2,000/mo for individual coverage through Obamacare with $10,000 deductibles.
