You can't defend against enemy aircraft attacks by using bombers and ICBMs.

I think COL John Boyd and his crew made aircraft like the F-14 obsolete more than Russian bombers and ICBMs.

Damn that jolly Roger scheme is sexy

VF-84 Jolly Rogers. They were deployed on the Nimitz (CVN-68) when they first made the transition to the F-14s, then later redeployed on the Theodore Roosevelt (CVN-71) for the Gulf War. That one was always my favorite Navy Squadron.

Unpopular opinion: Iceman was more badass than Maverick.

I don’t disagree, but if I’m not mistaken, the MiG never got a lock on Maverick, but did on Iceman.

Every now and then, someone says something that removes all doubt that their parents were closely related.

This is one of those times.

My history books must be outdated. How many times did this happen?

Along with VF-41, Black Aces. Two of the best looking groups out there. Did a short work up deployment with them in '76.
First experience working the flight deck. Nothing in my aviation career comes close to those few days.

Black Aces

fricking badass, too. Jolly Rogers still win, though.

The F-14 squadron art was the last gasp of an era started with WW2 nose art.
