If you've used up all your W's, they let you petition your college for an extra one granted that your appeal is accepted. Has anyone done this before and succeeded? Need to do it really badly for one of my classes (4 credit hours away from getting another 3 W's which stinks). And if so/if you knew someone who did, was it under some extreme conditions or will they consider less than that?

When did they put a limit on the number of Ws you can have?

I am working on it, I'm only a few hours behind but I overstepped my bounds and threw in a really difficult class while having 19 hours (this has happened more than once you see), and I really shouldn't have.

And they added it a couple years ago @Walt

I graduated in 07 and wouldn’t have made it if they would’ve limited my Ws.

It was somewhere around 07-08. It happened while I was still in school.

I'm assuming W is withdrawal?

I actually love this. Frankly i should have withdrawn from way more classes, I never played the W game. But those that did the W game properly were ridiculous. I knew guys that would withdraw from 2-3 classes a semester and change around because the knew after the first or second day the professor was gonna be a pain.

I knew people who abused it big time. Signed up for 21 hours and dropped the lowest grade or two after the first round of tests or right before the W cutoff date.

I'm pretty sure Auburn charged you for the class before the Withdraw date. So you could still Withdraw but you were charged for the class.

A university can't force you to fail a course.

I know someone who got an extra W at LSU through appeal. Transfer student who changed majors, lived in a part of BR that got flooded, and had some less than stellar advising that got them into the situation.

Just check into your school's/department's policies on appeal. Then just do it, worst case is you are sitting in the exact same spot as you are now.

They might have made this rule because of me. I had probably 20 W's on my transcript.
