The biggest national groups against IVF are the Southern Baptist Convention, Catholic Church and Heritage Foundation, along with many Anti-Abortion activists.

Sure there a ton of fundamentalists vehemently against messing with God's sex plans.

I'm neither fundamentalist nor Catholic, but once you understand what IVF actually is (the creation of human embryos, many of which are later destroyed or used in research), it isn't hard to understand why opposing IVF fits easily into a pro-life moral stance.

I think you have some fundamentalist Christians that aren't the biggest fans.

In-between all the truly terrifying white nationalist terrorist attacks, who has time to worry about anything else?

It’s no surprise that the FBI investigating arson and vandalism targeting Tesla owners bothers you.

The church will pick and choose what life is when it suits their opinion. Choosing to go through IVF should be viewed no differently than natural conception because you are trying to reproduce once all is said and done. If you haven't been on the side of someone who would give everything they have just to have one genetic form of offspring in their life when their body won't let them, you would understand that there is something extremely messed up with the supposed "pro-life moral."

Everyone picks and chooses, that's life. I have zero issues with IVF, but the argument above boils down to "if you saw how badly people want x, you would understand y". It's a bad argument.

I think everyone sympathizes with couples struggling with infertility. That said, being pro-life isn't the same thing as being pro-conception.

If you believe that life begins at conception, which most pro-life people do, then it logically follows that embryos are humans in a very early stage of development. After all, embryos are genetically unique and distinct from their parents and each other.

If embryos are humans, then the question becomes whether or not it is moral to create a human being that has a very high likelihood of being discarded or destroyed for research purposes, which is what happens to many embryos created during IVF.

If human beings have inherent worth and dignity, then it can't be right to create them as part of a process where they are likely to be destroyed. If they don't, then from a moral perspective it really doesn't matter what you choose to do to them at any stage of life.

I doubt anyone guessed that.
