Oh the blame Congress argument. I am sure you are a strong proponent of “ personal responsibility” for welfare recipients

It was introduced as a Pain-Patch called Duragesic.A gel in a clear tape patch that you stick on yourself.Lasts 72 hrs.It releases 25-100 micro-grams,depending on the strenth of the patch, into your bloodstream every hour.

It says it is by weight,100 x stronger than Heroin.

The strongest Narcotic that is prescribed that I'm aware of.

Now it's being produced in Labs in China and shipped here by the day in pill and powder form.

Most Heroin confiscated has Fentanyl in it.

It's usually Fentynal that offs people.

Watched a Netflix documentary about Fentanyl. Seems the drug cartels have cooks that make it, its then added to heroin increasing potency, which makes "better" product. Sell more, make more. When users unknowingly get dope containing Fentanyl, and use normal amount... they overdose.

Not my own experience but I do know someone who went through this. He said that it didn't really kill the pain, but it did make him not care.

One thing that hasn't been mentioned so far --

When smuggling drugs, obviously the less you smuggle in (by volume), the easier.

Fentanyl allows drug smugglers to smuggle in small amounts and cut it to a larger volume once inside the U.S.

Of course, you can't trust black market smugglers to cut things correctly, which results in overdoses.

Just another reason we should end the black markets by ending drug prohibition. Not saying that would magically fix everything, but we'd be better off.

"personal responsibility" is not a reasonable human expectation anymore?

That's a reach.

I'd say you have a small mind and don't really know how the world works.

That would assume that they care about the junkies, or human life for that matter.

The patches were common before Katrina. Wear it for a day or two, or eat the gel.
Were popular back in the day of 80mg Oxycontin..

Fentanyl is a very potent, short acting drug. Dosing is in micrograms (a milligram would be waaaay to much). When I worked in a recovery room, the drug was given for pain. It was ideal in that situation, because it was a very short acting drug (often given every 15 to 20 minutes). In the recovery situation this is great, since anesthetics given in surgery can re-anesthetize a patient and cause them to stop breathing. If this were to happen while Fentanyl is being given for pain, it is good to know the drug has a very short half life. At least one of the respiratory depressant drugs will stop working in a short period of time. Of course the patient’s airway and vitals must be managed during this time. Most get over the respiratory depression when the Fentanyl wears off. I hated giving patients IM Morphine or other opiates, then sending them to their room 15 minutes later (that was the policy, it was ok to discharge from recovery 15 minutes after IM opiates). Who knows what could happen, in a private room, unmonitored. Glad to be retired.

How does the heroin dealer acquire it? Is it coming from Mexico/the cartels?

It comes from China via FedEx. It’s very hard to stop right now.

Most street Fentanyl is largely comprised from benzos (Xanax) with some Fentanyl (opioid).

Mixing the two has synergistic effect.

Think 1 +1 = 3.

Coming to a strip mall near you.

Google “Ketamine Clinics”.

Opiates now evil. Ketamine (used to be Special K a club drug in the 80’s and 90’s and was evil) is now good. Lol

Fentanyl is being made on the black market now, heroin addicts tend to push the envelope between being high and being dead.
