Little tangible benefits for sure, but how much would this really cost the tax payer? It's not like we have to change road signs or stationery. Maps can be changed on the next printing and it's just a one word change. Software can be updated on the next regularly scheduled release, again, it's just a one word change.
This is nowhere near as expensive a change as changing the name of a military base or an airport.
I wonder if it might be more of a diversionary thing. Let people argue about something like this instead of something more consequential.

I agree with you in principal that a name is just a name. I also agree that changing names is nothing more than virtue signaling
The problem I have is “Menu Cost”…. The name change will require MILLIONS in fedgov and stategov expenditures as EVERY MAP, EVERY POLICY, EVERY MENTION of the GofM will now need to be edited in any agency that receives federal funding.
