OK, that's too much. We can't numb the horror of child molesters by putting them in the same class as, as it goes, regular rapists. Also, he's not a child rapist, so that punishment really doesn't fit; I mean, we used to put child molesters to death.
so you think rape should be a tier under pedo? Both are abhorrent in their own right, and should be similar if not exact same punishment IMO. I understand in our minds pedos are the worst of the worst, but punishment-wise, why should they not be similar? Simply don't be a pedo and also don't rape adults and you have nothing to worry about.

Isn’t it the case that the dude left the frat party with the girl and that both had been drinking heavily? Do we know when she passed out?
It’s not like the kid randomly found some passed out chick behind a dumpster and started dry humping her and finger banging her.
Sounds more like “bad sex when drunk” to me.

No, this is not that case.

This is quite literally exactly what happened

Keep in mind these are the same parents that wanted him to only get probation because he hadn't been convicted of another crime before then (no telling what they got him out of before that) AND wanted him to be able to "educate others on college campuses" over what can happen.
They absolutely reek of the type that thinks their kid does no wrong and should never be punished for anything. frick them. Your kid is a rapist and is lucky he got off with what he did.

The Judge should throw the case out of court, then lecture the lawyer, and threaten his law degree if he ever tries bullshite like this again
lawyers are the scumbags of this earth

It may be a little harsh but if he wouldn't have messed with the girl, he wouldn't have to worry about it. Perhaps this will make others think twice before doing something like this.
While first and second degree murder are both atrocious, there is a palpable difference between the two, and so should the punishments. It's no different here. NO ONE is suggesting there shouldn't be punishment. Simply, there should be SOME degree of difference between the punishments for these two distinct crimes. I don't know how one could argue differently.
Otherwise, we might as well say that if you hadn't jaywalked, you wouldn't be getting waterboarded--think twice. While similar, these two things are not QUITE the same. That's all.

Yes. Abhorrent and similar, not the same.

There's no reason the punishments should not be SIMILAR, simply not the same.
quote:

Simply don't spit on someone and you won't be thrown in jail for life. Like I said to someone else, these crimes are similar, not the same. The punishment, therefore, should be similar but not identical. We used to put one category of offenders TO DEATH. There is a difference which should be reflected in the punishment, however slight, is all I am saying.

Funny how a rape conviction changes your life like that.
Mom and dad should invest a little more concern into his actions and the effect on his victim and a little less into the effect on his future. Guess what, he has to live life like everyone else when he gets convicted of a really bad crime.

The parents come off as complete scumbags. They think he is the victim.
