Looking up more info on this...He wasn't actually convicted of rape, just sexual assault. He was indicted on rape charges also, but those charges were dropped.
His lawyer is trying to spin this, but it seems like they already did that which is what resulted in the lesser charges.

What base is outercourse? Rounding first and headed to second?
I think it's rounding first, the first base coach giving you the stop sign, but you are fully intent on stretching it to a double.

In California, at the time, digital penetration was not considered rape

That's too bad. I have a solution though, don't rape a woman, and you won't become a sex offender. Do you see how that works out?

What about analog?

Maybe next time try not raping a woman?

I understand that. I guess they didn't actually "spin" it last time (sorry for my poor choice of wording), as the rape charges would not have applied to this case.
But I don't agree with their current argument that he was not guilty of sexual assault because it was "outercourse", as they did find evidence that digital penetration occurred and that is considered sexual assault.
It appears that many current news stories are referring to his conviction as "rape" and not "sexual assault". My point is that the distinction needs to be made clear, otherwise Turner's lawyers will have more people agreeing with them that he wasn't actually guilty of the crime of rape.

I think we know what happened. It's just lawyer speak.

Wait, you want the media to correctly report something?

Turner never intended to rape an unconscious woman, he said. The lawyer cited witness accounts that Turner was "violently thrusting but fully clothed" when two Swedish graduate students found him on top of a half-naked, intoxicated woman in 2015.
I mean, best case scenario you battered an unconscious person, and that's not slouch of a crime considering the general creepiness of it all.

OK, that's too much. We can't numb the horror of child molesters by putting them in the same class as, as it goes, regular rapists. Also, he's not a child rapist, so that punishment really doesn't fit; I mean, we used to put child molesters to death.

If that was my daughter, he would not need to worry about registering anywhere but a cemetery
