Hopefully you're a good person and either hired movers or didnt ask family/friends to help.

Had a truck in college. Guess who was the designated mover

I don’t mind moving into a new house. It’s packing up the old house that is just a soul crushing awful task. When we moved out of our last house after living there about 10 years and raising three kids there, it literally felt impossible to get everything out. Every day until the minute that we lock the door for the last time, we kept finding more stuff to clean up and move out.

$10/hour?

Are you f*cking kidding?

Moving is one of the hardest and most physically draining jobs out there - especially in f*cking August. No one is going to do it for what isn't even minimum f*cking wage in many jurisdictions.

Would you move a stranger for 10 f*cking dollars an hour?

People read your Craigslist ad and just assumed you were either kidding or a complete f*cking MORON.

Then you should have paid more according to your economic theory

EXACTLY.

And you hit the age right on the spot.

I am 6'3"+ and in my 20's I was about 200 lbs. I think people just looked at me and immediately thought, "DAMN -- now he would make a great mover! Next time I move he's the first sap I'm calling." I actually had people I didn't even f*cking know (friends of friends and even friend of friends of friends) ask me if I would help them move.

Of course, it always came with f*cking obligatory "I'll pay for the beer and pizza" -- as if I gave a f*ck as I could buy my own pizza and beer and wouldn't have to spend my day in the grueling hot sun moving f*cking furniture. And, of course, at the end of the day they would buy enough so that each person would get 1 semi-hot beer and about 1/2 of a slice of f*cking pizza.

At one point in my early 20's I had been asked to move so many f*cking people that I just put an end to it. If you weren't in my immediate family or in my immediate circle of friend, I would literally just laugh people off and walk away as if I just assumed they were f*cking joking. It seemed to work pretty darn well.

Once I turned 30 I would tell people (other than VERY IMMEDIATE FAMILY) that I retired from the moving profession once I turned 30 and advised them to hire movers -- LIKE EVERYONE OVER 30 SHOULD DO.

ETA: And, THE WORST F*CKING THING OF ALL about helping friends and "friends of friends" move is that you would tell them that they need to have EVERYTHING boxed up and ready so that we don't have to sit there in the f*cking sun all day while they are still boxing sh!t up. And, like f*cking clockwork, they NEVER had anything f*cking ready. I would estimate that maybe 5-10% of people had even f*cking started to box things up before us movers would arrive.

And, before you ask -- YES, people asking me to help them move became a HUGE pet peeve of mine when I was in my teens, 20's, and 30's. Once you hit 40, nonfamily members generally stop asking.

The buyer will appreciate it if you leave some unflushed deuces in the toilets. It’s actually a tradition in many parts of this country.

I didn't like it then. Would probably hate it more now.

My stepfather always owned a truck. And, on every truck he ever owned, the first thing he would put on the truck after he bought it was the following bumper sticker --

My next automobile purchase will be a truck and I'll have the bumper sticker ready before I even buy the truck.

We've got to move our downstairs (3 rooms) for repairs from flood. The storage building is about two miles away. I've contacted three moving companies and the cheapest price I've gotten is $750 minimum. I'm 66 and in pretty good shape and I may have to bite the bullet on this one.

You know what’s worse than moving your own shite?

Having someone call you and ask you to help move THEIR shite.

It's looking like I'll be moving in a year or two, and it's actually a bit liberating to look around the house and start getting rid of shite.
