How so? Please explain how they are for officers? What benefits do the arresting officers get?

Well one is out of control for the person. People don't put themselves in situations to be killed by drunks.
Sorry your family member got shot. But usually people who get shot, put themselves in that situation.

I think it's great they are doing checkpoints at the start of the holiday weekend. Lots of friends and family traveling this week. It's great to see the cops helping to keep them safe.

I am concerned about drivers that are speeding up and slowing down in the left hand lane. I see many cars weaving in the right hand lane on I-10 during the late evenings. I drive from Kenner to Gonzales around 11pm most nights. One Sunday morning around 8 am a state trooper pulled over this guy that was weaving in the right hand lane while driving around 50 MPH. Luckily, there was very little traffic and the weather conditions were good

Because the shitty judges put them back on the street by reducing a 4th offense DWI to a 1st Offense DWI, so you are not removing anyone, you're just putting a revenue generating killing machine back in the game. Look at the shitty judges in these cases and YOUR tune will change.

Im not saying this never happens, but to write it as if its an absolute is foolish at best. Also, the judge has nothing to do with changing charges. The DA does.

Usually what you see is a plea deal where the person pleads guilty to a lessor offense. Both sides consider it a win. The prosecutor gets a conviction and the defense worked out a better deal. Both sides dont like trials because they risk completely losing.

This is all arrests not just DWI.

I know a guy who's a DWI lawyer who does this. Seems counterproductive.

Excellent on his part. Shows clients and others he will do we can to make sure you don't get pinged.

Same thing like a doctor saying don't smoke/ eat unhealthy.

We have telemetry for our racing rigs. I can prove, scientifically, my reaction times are better than average even after a dozen beers

Now first thing in the morning before coffee or a monster, I'm worthless behind the wheel.

They should post Uber/Lyft/LocalTaxi#'s as well.

The DUI/DWI checkpoints are aggressive policing. They generate as much tax revenue as possible as they don't just go after DUI/DWI. They write tickets for as many non-criminal infractions as possible.

I'm not totally against the checkpoints. I am against them issuing non-criminal citations to sober drivers.

The lady who blew 0.4+ after wrecking with 6 children in the car in Georgia is a valid reason for sobriety checkpoints.

The last time I went through one, the highway patrol asked (twice) if "anyone in the car had consumed any alcohol this evening "

Why not just the driver? Why anyone in the car?

Either way we said no but I ever understood that.

The goal of the checkpoints is to get people off the street, who have been drinking and is driving because they are potentially putting other people at risk.

If people are aware of the checkpoints then I would think they would be less likely to get on the road and drive, after drinking, if they have to go through those checkpoints.

Personally, I wouldn't do it because everyone is responsible for their own actions, but people will.. Just to be "cool". I don't know if it is trashy, but

.08 usually is one hr post consumption of one drink. So if you drink 1-2 beers then wait 2-4 hrs after driving or call a cab or a dd

This is not true. The law states mandatory, but it doesnt mean someone will serve any time. Money talks and thats what this game is about.

Are you referring to the Facebook group that existed a few years ago where people would post where the checkpoints were? I don't know if that still exists, but it was VERY trashy. Not the concept of posting the checkpoint locations, but the actual posters. It was a bunch of Livingston and Ascension Parish trash and it usually turned into a cop-bashing session. One of the main dumb bitches that was most outspoken about how the checkpoints "violated her rights " had been nailed for DWI 3 times within about 3 years. Yeah, let's blame the cops for your bad decisions.

So every DUi arrest is OT? In the state is I reside in, checkpoints are illegal. But the state funds for OT in each region of the state. Maybe 2-3 departments per weekend get OT. But to assume duis are money grabs for officers is pretty silly.
