Everyone on Facebook posting where sobriety checkpoints are located

Trashy or nice?
I'm conflicted because I think .08 is a little low, but hammered drivers are the worst. My wife's brother was killed July 4th weekend about 10 years ago by a drunk driver, but the driver was almost 3 times over limit.

If DWI stops were anything but a money making proposition for everyone involved I would say that they're doing a public service.
As it stands now it's all about the $$$, not public safety.

People that are 3 times over the limit aren't checking Facebook for sobriety checkpoints

the police have to post them. why can't a citizen?

Our DUI laws are whack. I should also say that I'm definitely against drunk driving but I think that checkpoints are entrapment. 3 beers isn't the same for all people. I know a few plant baws that smash that on the drive home. I think police should be looking for people driving erratically. BTW... Very sorry about your wife's brother.

And you think an arbitrary check point would've somehow changed that?

Also, people don't realize madd is behind the checkpoints. They also help fund the checkpoints and the cops are working extra duty not regular time.

You don't believe checkpoints are a deterrent?

Not trashy. Sorry to hear about your wife's brother

There are 2 correct answers you can give at a checkpoint when they ask if you've "consumed any alcoholic beverages this evening" to avoid getting a sobriety test:
1) "No"
2) "No sir"
1) "No"
2) "No sir"

I know a guy who's a DWI lawyer who does this. Seems counterproductive.

Then the guys who get DWI's then get court ordered meetings where they pay out the arse to... MADD.
It's only a racket if someone doesn't get their cut I suppose.
Eta: for those who didn't know, extra duty pay > regular duty pay...

They have to post that there WILL be a checkpoint.
They don't have to post WHERE. And they don't.

I only mention it was extra duty because people always say the city or parish is paying for it and that's not really true in most cases.

No, because everybody finds out where they're at and avoids them.
The cops could catch so many more fish in their net (and actually keep the streets safer) if they just went about their business of patrolling, rather than congregating 30 at a time at a checkpoint somewhere.

How the frick is removing drunk drivers from behind the wheel NOT about public safety? Have a family member or a close friend killed by a drunk a-hole and your tune will change.
