Have you ever actually tried spending time with your family? Like no distractions and full conversations and shite? Meh, not for me.

If you start building the resentment now, it should be ready to explode when your child reaches their teen years.

Kids spend half the time outdoors their parents did and probably far less than grandparents

Max security inmates spend more time outside than the average kid. Wonder why theyre fat and soft?

You're naive and have a lot to learn about this parenting thing. I don't even say that sarcastically.

Helps to have them in sports now more than ever. Right now my son has water polo practice four times a week. Has him in better shape than I ever was.

Nope. Buy a bluray player and apple tv or firestick.

Both useful resources for you and your daughter. There's a lot of programming that she will like.

Yep

Also, parents aren't spending nearly as much time outdoors with their kids as previous generations. It's not just the kids

This is so stupid. I get wasting all free time in front of the tv is not good, but a couple of hours a day before bed to wind down is fine, or watching news in the morning before work.

Your daughter will hate you when all her friends get to watch cartoons and have video games and she can't.

I wish.

I work 10 hours a day so I can do whatever I want the other 14. During the week I mean.

Every parent thinks her kids are going to learn Mandarin never watch TV and be special.

One of my first/favorite memories with my daughter involved a tv. I was working in Denver at the time and her and her mom camed to visit (before you ask I moved to Denver for a better job opportunity to provide a better life for them and it was better for them to stay here where they had more support than if it had just been the three of us).

I was so excited to see them that I couldn't sleep so I was up watching tv. My lil girl woke up in the middle of the night and i took her and plopped her down next to me and we watched some UFC event.

She was mesmerized by the colors of the fighters and the fighters trunks that's she just sat there next to me for a while until she finally crashed. She was only a few months old but I still remember that night (she is now six) as one of the best one on one moments that we had.

I understand not letting a tv raise your kid but you sound like an a-hole acting as if a tv is the worst thing to have in your kids life.

It’s a marathon not a sprint homie.

You’ll see, you’ll see.

Agreed. I have my job Monday through Friday. Off at 5, then either the gym or rugby practice. Once I get home, I play with my dog then its time to wind down and relax. That might be 3-4 hours a weeknight Im in front of the tv, but Im more than ok with that since Im an adult and have responsibilities.

The weekends? Thats different. Im actually out and doing things.
