I have a biz partner in two businesses (construction and hvac), and he wants to leave his kids a legacy. I don’t, as I want my children to earn their keep. My kids will have opportunities I never imagined, but I don’t plan on giving them anything. I sure as hell don’t want them going into insurance, my main business
I don’t know how old your kids are but as I watch mine become good young adults I feel less and less like this.

Toddlers, so maybe I’ll change my tune as well.

Inherited oil and gas royalties from my mother. There are thousands of recipients and every year of the past 20 years I receive a check between $7.00 to $9.00, It has never eclipsed the $10.00 barrier. LOL
My wife inherited something along those lines but a monthly check for $3.50 or less.

When I was 18, a grandfather passed away as a poor farmer of 50 acres living on subsidies. The estate was split up so much, each party only got like $25k.
The successors did not want to deal with the junked cars on property and especially the junked school buses my grandfather had used as dry storage. There were 11 school buses. The cars and buses were signed over to me. I called up a scrapper and they offered $3k a piece for buses. I cleared over $50k in all and all I had to do was drive 6 hours to pick up the check. Some of my family tried to come after me because I got double than the true successors, but everything had a chain of custody to me and I kept it all.

My dad passed and I got $ 375 . My stepmother had worked magic when he had Alzheimer's . All good , she passed and I was the one grinning at the funeral .

We got this. Ours is about $500 for each of the three of us every year.

Genuine question: Why? My parents are still here, and I don’t want anything from them. They’re not wealthy, but they’re not hurting.
I grew up provided for but I never had the opportunities or choices others would have. My whole life and education was all focused on "making a living", not ever "living".
My father grew up poor and did a good job. Gave me a better set of choices but still thinking poor. We are doing one or two steps better than dad.
I want to give my kids the choice to do something they love. Not what they have to do like I did.

I will eventually
As an only child, I’ll get both parents 401ks and their nice house and dads heavy equipment to sell and some large life insurance policies
I’ll be taken care of but honestly they’re all I’ve got so I’m not looking forward to this ship coming in at all

Sell your interest to the operator. Stop clogging up the Accounting department with your pitiful interest.

My buddies dad died several years ago. He owned a ton of farm land in NC and rented it out to share croppers. He and his brother and sister went out to the farm to clean the place out and sell it. They found over a million in cash in the old man's chest freezer. They split it up and didn't report shite. He showed me the $400k+ when he got back from the trip. Had it stacked up on his kitchen table. It was an impressive sight. Apparently the old guy had been taking land payments in cash for years and holding onto the money. He paid off his mortgage and put his kids through college with the cash.
As for me, all I will inherit are bills.

could have inherited a fortune, but on the caveat we spent one night in Spooky Manor first.

Couple of $K over the years. Into retirement savings. No debt, besides the house. Plan to pay it off in the next 10 years (bi-weekly payments and an extra payment once a year)

Got one earlier this year, I’d rather have my parents back

Not yet. I will though my uncle didn’t have children and has one hell of a gun collection. He and my aunt have it in the wills that the guns are mine. I hope they live another 100 years, but when they do pass the guns are easily $500k or more.
Hell, he has over 15 Colt single action revolvers from pre-1900 alone. They average close to $10k a piece.

Inherit? Hell, I paid for both parents' funerals while all my siblings sat idly by.

Yes - 62 acres (1/4 of approximately 250 acres of timberland) near Saline Lake
$125,000 (1/4 share of a $500,000 life insurance policy)
The timber still has a ways to go prior to being cut and sold. The $125,000 was used to put off credit card debt, make some upgrades to our home, pay off car loans, and the rest has been invested.
