Meh. I’m comfortable like this. Living healthy sounds terrible.
Not nearly as terrible as having to go on dialysis at age 55.

I was in the Navy 1969-73.Lots of fat guys in those days. The food in the chow halls was horrific from a cardiovascular health standpoint. One could easily eat 10,000 calories at breakfast alone.Probably the reason there wasn’t more fatties than there was was because most everyone smoked.Smoking reves up your metabolism and reduces body’s efficiency at processing calories.

BMI doesn’t mean shite
for athletes, some crossfitters, lifters, no it doesn't. BUT, for the greater portion of humanity it does.

It isn't both. I'm in a drill sergeant unit, I see BCT cycles every year, and it isn't the food. Simply put, recruits for all branches are coming in weaker; less muscle mass, less bone density, less ability to handle intensive physical training without getting injured. More fatties but even those that are skinny still have less lean muscle than a recruit of the same height/weight 20 years ago. There aren't enough weeks in basic training now to make up for the years of sedentary living playing video games and living on smart phones, pushing the physical training harder only causes more injuries that the DoD is paying for and will have to pay for the rest of the recruits' lives. There's talk of putting bone scanners in MEPS to filter out recruits with bad joints and setting up special pre-BCT boot camps...
This is what happens when you cancel dodge ball at recess and stop making people exercise in gym class.

Scruffy doesn’t think some of you comprehend the definition of obese.
Clyde Edwards-Haire (5’8”. 209)
BMI 31.8. Obese
want more examples?
K’Lavon Chaisson (6’ 4” 250)
BMI 30.4. Obese
Jacoby Stevens (6’ 1”. 228)
BMI 30.1 Obese

Well, it’s settled then.
We can toss this study in the garbage.
The 20% of those in the military classified as obese are simply peak physical specimens akin to top NFL athletes.

Because using the epitome of 18-22 year old athletes is a good argument against BMI
ok

That is the only defense they have.
It is like they are trying to justify it to themselves.

I know who all the former military dudes in this thread are that failed height and weight standards.

The percentage of people who are outside the parameters of using BMI due to muscle mass and other factors is a significantly small portion that could likely be managed through the margin of error.
This is 205, 6 feet 1 inch. BMI of 27.0. Overweight. This shite means nothing

Did you just post your torso on TD?

again, never said it applied to ALL of them.
even said that there is more fatties today than before.
my argument is that there could very easily be a noticeable percentage that are simply leaner and more muscular than before. especially with a concerted effort by the military to make them that way.
i used football players as examples because their pictures, heights and weights are readily available.
and they are in the same age group as majority of first term military.
18-22 year olds being fed and conditioned around the clock tend to look alike.
whether they’re playing war games or football games.

Negative, posted an example image. Militaty members are generally in better shape and more muscular than their civilian counterparts. The lack of consideration as to how that works into BMI is hilarious

How do you know the height and weight of the example image you posted?

Because that's the height and weight.

If that’s true then you must have absolute tree trunks for legs. And skipped all upper body days.
