oh absolutely

I work in O&G

in an office of about 60 people, there are like 4 people that I would categorize as "not fat"

at least 20 are morbidly obese

its sad

I work in HEALTHCARE and I am surrounded by morbidly obese people.

We have a free state of the art gym in our building, a healthy and cheap cafeteria with tons of healthy options prepared by chefs, tons of groups that walk each day in the park across the street before and after work, etc.

We encourage and enable a healthy lifestyle as best we can and people are still massive. All of our handicap spots are taken from fat people with handicap tags. Countless people take the elevator the 2nd floor all day.

These threads are great because there are always a few people who find out they are fat

You know who loves the obesity epidemic which lends to type 2 diabetes and eventual kidney failure?

Owners of dialysis centers. Those things seem to keep popping up everywhere now.

There's a dialysis center in my town, population under 10,000.

Same.

Scruffy is honestly amazed by the majority of the medical staff.

Most manage themselves well.

But, we have a fricking McDonalds in our hospital.

That is insane.

Scruffy’s mentality is, how can he tell someone to lose weight and eat healthier if he was obese too?

Walking, running, bike riding.

It doesn’t take much.

Very calming too.

People don’t have to hit the weights.

All it requires is cardio and eating somewhat healthier.

Calming and a bit addicting. Not to mention, being around people who are motivated can be uplifting as well.

You know, you could actually get away with eating a McDonald's cheeseburger and a small fry probably once a week.

However, 1 McDonald's cheeseburger is no longer the norm. The combo comes with 2 cheeseburgers.

I’m reviewing patient charts all day for work stuff.

Makes me sad when I see a chart of someone 42 that is having their foot amputated cause they are a non compliant obese diabetic.

Just makes me even more motivated to take care of my health. I want to be the 70 year old woman you see out hiking....not the one confined to their bed cause they didn’t take care of themself when they were younger.

Depresses Scruffy when he sees a 300 lb ten year old and children with type 2 DM.

We are doing the children of our country a huge disservice.

A family friend is a pediatric endocrinologist who treats a lot of kids with type 2 diabetes. It was so rare as to be thought impossible when she started practicing.

On the McDonald’s thing, you could easily eat a McDonald’s cheeseburger and small fry every day for lunch and not be obese.

With our majority Navajo and Hispanic patient population....I saw obese children all the time when I was on the Peds floor.

Just made me so sad for those poor kids.

Obese shaming needs to come back imo. Not “oh you need to lose 20 lbs cause you are overweight”. I’m talking....if the zoo is the only place you can get an MRI than you have failed at life type shaming.

Anecdotal, but Scruffy feels as if he sees as much type 2 in children as type 1.

Usually the type 1 kids are fairly well managed.

We don’t need a McDonalds in the hospital.

In all seriousness I rarely eat fast food or junk food. Although when I’m home for 2 months at a time the wife always has fresh brownies on the counter.

May pick up a Wendy’s spicy chicken sandwich 1-2x a month, but that’s pretty much it.

Biggest thing is dropping sodas.
