Estonia experiments with time outs instead of speeding tickets

The program has two tiers, with those caught traveling above the limit by 20 km/h or less subject to a 45 minute wait along the shoulder, with those caught exceeding the limit by 21-40 lm/h subject to a 60 minute wait.
Estonia has been struck by a sharp increase in road fatalities between 2017 and 2018, prompting this unique attempt at changing driver behavior. the program is just a pilot right now but it will be tested again over the coming weeks to help determine whether it is an effective deterrent.

That seems more effective than a fine. Of course they cant steal your money in the name of safety like that

I think that it would be awesome if we could disable cars with the push of a button when they are driving like idiots and putting others at risk

So, an automatic 45 - 60 minute jail sentence. That sucks

A warning can pop up telling the car to pull over and the car starts slowing down

I’d move to Estonia next week if the local female talent would reward good driving behavior in the manner I’m thinking of.

You already have to wait 20-30 minutes before they walk up to your car.

That's how long it takes for cops to figure how to open the door

Someone is apparently programming people to accept loss of all freedoms.
No one owns you. Fight to keep your independence.

You could argue speed is never the problem. It is human error in some form.
Safe high speeds are possible with better drivers and technology.

I would argue that. the problem with the "technology" part is that it requires giving up some amount of freedom to AI/self driving cars. id rather it be privately operated than have the state control my travel. till then, road violations are just taxes.

By technology I meant for cases such as mechanical failures (ie tires blowing out).
I also don't want to give up the ability to drive my own vehicle.

tickets penalize the poor much more than the rich other than places who do it as a % of annual income. A "time out" arguably makes things more level, though it's doubtful a rich guy would lose their job after being an hour late though an hourly laborer might.

Your freedom stops when it endangers someone else's.

driving a significantly different speed than those around you is infinitely more dangerous. Both too fast and too slow. Going 15mph over the speed limit when you're going with traffic isn't an issue. Going 15mph under the speed limit generally is an issue.
