That’s a good idea but it’s not safe to be on the shoulder.

I think that it would be awesome if we could disable cars with the push of a button when they are driving like idiots and putting others at risk

Would be cool to be able to down vote a drivers reckless driving.

Yet both the rich and the poor have the same opportunity to simply not speed.

Are they removing the speed cameras? They have road fatalities because the people there literally walk into the road without looking... Just knowing that you'll stop. I don't know how many times I had to slam on my brakes there.

That seems more effective than a fine. Of course they cant steal your money in the name of safety like that

So no Due Process?

Tell me about the due process in the US when you get a ticket. You get to pay court fees.

You still get to argue your case to a judge....

I guess the driver could accept the timeout in lieu of a ticket.

This is actually kinda brilliant. Forcing someone to sit on the side of the road for a couple hours is far more likely to modify their behavior than a ticket. But, Louisiana would be a fascinating case study. I wonder how that penalty would impact poor people who’s time isn’t valuable.

it wouldn’t impact them at all and would lead to a rash of new buzzfedd articles about how we’re all fricking racist

then again there’s nothing that wouldn’t lead to that

I think this is a great idea.

Just yesterday an impatient driver near my house was in a hurry on a 2 lane road and tried to pass on a grass shoulder.
That impatience killed her and almost a 20yo.

quote:

A 44-year-old Casselberry woman died Saturday after crashing head-on into another car along State Road 434 in Seminole County, the Florida Highway Patrol said. The crash happened about 2:40 p.m. near Palm Drive. Witnesses told troopers that the woman, who was driving eastbound in a 1999 Dodge SUV, was attempting to pass someone on the grass shoulder of SR 434 when she struck multiple traffic signs and lost control of the car.

She veered into the westbound lanes, where the front of her SUV struck a Chevrolet Cruze driven by 20-year-old Hyacinth James, FHP said.

James was taken to Central Florida Regional Hospital in serious condition.

Before too long the GPS will know where you are and will monitor the speed of the car based on the posted speed limit for that area anyway.

Mu GPS already does that, shows road speed limit and my speed, which turns red if I go significantly over.

My wife’s gladiator does that. I have the voice set to 10 miles over. The problem is that it’s not correct 100% of the time.

Vehicle: “The speed limit is 45.”
Me: “Bitch, the speed limit is 55.”
