Emergency room burnout on display.

90% of your time is spent dealing with drug seekers and bullshitters. Eventually you crack.

Anxiety attack will frick you up. Last time I had one I felt like I had a heart attack and I felt like shite for a week. Anxiety attack hangover is a real thing.

Good news is you won’t die from an anxiety attack. Feels like it, but there’s plenty of exercises to slow you heart rate up. And the hangover you feel is the energy used by your body to fight the attack. Also mentally you’re off for a few days, with general anxiety of it happening again.
Best thing to do his stay hydrated, get plenty sleep, eat well and you’ll feel better quicker, even if you’re on daily meds.
Anxiety isn’t a joke, and no one asks for it, it just presents itself whether you’re ready or not.
I feel for people with GAD or mental illnesses.

At least he wasn't throwing a full blown ANF. I'm sure he was just before that though.

"ANF" oh my!

Have we worked together?

That doctor lost her shite. Inexcusable. Kill them with apathy is the rule that I go by. "Flourescent Therapy" can make the lame walk again. Patient is clearly too calm. Clear purposeful movements yanking his hand away from her.

The lecture she gave was a waste of breath. The lecture of not giving benzos to chronic benzo patients is one to have. Also look him up through the prescription tracking system that I believe is now nationwide. If he's had 100 Klonipin prescribed over the last month, walk in with that info. Do some basic CYA labs. Once they realize a scrip ain't happening, they will leave.

I'm sure it was all these pill poppers that ER docs deal with constantly that "prevented" them from prescribing me simple ol' valium for debilitating back spasms.

Had never had them before, nor since, but laid in bed and crawled to the bathroom for three days before seeing my normal doctor. (This happened over a weekend) He instantly knew what was going on and I was functional within a day after the valium.

He also knows I'm not a pill popper.

Never had been prescribed valium before, or since, either.

For the most part they didn't bother me, except for those that got all demanding and shite when you had a bunch of REAL shite going down. I lost my shite on one after they stuck their head out of the room and gave one of those chickenheaded "How much longer you mf'ers gonna be?!!!"...as I was in the process of passing off a 6 year old ATV accident victim with severe trauma to the head, chest and abd to Air Evac, coordinating a second emergency LZ in the parking lot for the dad to be flown out, and treating an acute MI. My answer was much less tactful than the one in the video.

How people can see and here this shite going on and see a virtual warzone going on down the hall and bitch about having to wait for some bullshite ailment...and it was...is beyond me.

I miss the ER sometimes. I'd probably still work some shifts for fun if it wasn't such a huge liability risk.

ETA..and the EMR here sucks arse, very user unfriendly. The lab is slow as shite, and calling radiology out is like trying to get a teenager to clean their rooms. I ain't got time for that shite. Give me some paper to chart and write orders on, carry that shite out and let me roll!!! My last shift was when they changed to EMR.

ER is no place for a high school kid. They’d get in the way and slow down lifesaving procedures, or they could be hurt by some of the crazy addicts that get brought into the ER or medics rushing patients in on stretcher. It’s a really dangerous place if you aren’t trained to be there

That said, I agree high school kids should get some experience seeing that kind of stuff. Urgent care instead of ER though. Urgent care gets all the crazies, but they aren’t saving anyone’s life

This story is pretty much is Exhibit A about the racism black people experience in the medical world.

Uh... what? Where was the racist part of this interaction? And wtf are they talking about with black people experiencing racism in medicine?

There wasn't anything racist. Any dumbass with the same "issues" would've been treated the same. Then they agitated her. Been there. Can't blame her, but there are more creative and entertaining ways to handle such situations.

ETA...but there is a huge problem with a specific demographic abusing our ER/hospital/Medicaid/Obamacare systems. As a result, they may have problems accessing quality outpatient care.

Make a fricking appointment with your Dr instead of clogging up the ER with injury, that isn't a true emergency.

Genetically? That's in question, but she apparently identifies as one since her name is Beth and she hasn't filed suit against the reporter for referring to it/her as "she".
