Los Gatos is a very very wealthy city. I bet she sees a ton of housewives looking for pills. I doubt she was being racist.

Chronic benzos are not a good treatment for “anxiety”

True. I'd love to have a quick fix for those I inherit that have been on them for forty years instead of having the same discussion each visit as we're weaning them down.

Not gonna lie. Sometimes you just don't have the fight in you and if you can get them lower, like from the 2mg qid of Xanax they were on down to .5 bid to tid, that's a win!!!!

Exactly. Make a fricking appointment with your Dr instead of clogging up the ER with injury, that isn't a true emergency.

He’s not even faking going through withdrawals very well.

This. If he was in withdrawals, I would treat. Maybe even give him one for the road. Benzo withdrawals can be deadly, but he wasn't having them. I'm not a complete hardass, but I'd damn sure make sure they didn't think they could make a regular thing of rolling in on me. I have/had my ways of checking someone out thoroughly, ethically and professionally without them ever wanting to experience it again.

People experiencing panick attack are not responsive to that sort of treatment. They can’t just snap out of a chemical imbalance in their brain.

At least he wasn't throwing a full blown ANF. I'm sure he was just before that though.

ER doctors have it really bad. At least 1/4 of their cases are people looking for drugs. And they can lose their license for stuff like that. Then at the same time they have high stress cases of life and death at a moments notice, very serious situations. ER doctors end up being super cynical and constantly at high stress levels. A lot of them burn out. It’s a rough job, even with the money they make

that wasn't a fricking panic attack or a benzo withdrawal. That was a dumbass tying up the ER, probably a no pay or on the taxpayers dime to get a few pills. He should've at least been smart enough to go to a sleazey urgent care. Now, he could've had something else going on, like a cardiac event, pulmonary embolus, dissecting aortic aneurysm, spontaneous pneumothorax etc. So you work them up. Sounds like she did, all was normal and it was time to go.

I think high school kids should have to spend the summer in the ER working.

I think everyone should. And more than just a few hours. I have a med student with me now that thinks he may want to work ER. My advice was to spend a lot of time in the ER before you make that choice, and not just watching the cool shite. I worked ER for a few years as a resident and when I first started into practice. I don't see how anyone could do it long term and stay sane.

That's no doubt. I have only ever had one legitimate anxiety attack, that shite would be impossible to verbally articulate or explain at all... if you've had one, you know.
