We just replaced my wife's '19 Traverse's starter. Left her in the middle of Veterans Blvd in Metry during peak traffic. Had to get it towed to the dealership.... Thank you extended warranty...
I had never thought of this before. Usually when a starter goes bad you are in your driveway or a parking spot. Start/stop will leave you stuck in the middle of an intersection

wow finally common sense. hopefully all manufacturers will release an update that allows the computer to hold the last state of the button press.

Happened to my wife. Stuck mid intersection in a horrible traffic cluster frick that she made a million times worse when her car crapped out, with 2 kids in the car in the summer. Thankfully she had enough sense to quickly get it jumped off with one of those jump starter packs. No help from anyone of course.
I deleted that autostop shite permanently promptly after that.

My Tahoe does this. I talked to my mechanic about removing/deleting it and he said it’s possible but they have to take out the engine, replace the lifters etc but it’s pricey - around $3k
I've read that a tuner can shut it off without having to replace the lifters.
On my Ram, I can turn the MDS off by using the gear limit buttons.
I did a little experiment and turned off the MDS every time I drove. My gas mileage actually went up by almost a mile a gallon.

The shutting off is all electronic and can be done with a proper ECM tune.
Gotcha. Is that the Range delete that you just plug in? I’ve been looking at those too
Range AFM Disabler

I don't own a car that does it but I think when I drove rentals with them, you could just put it in neutral at the stop light and it would disable the start/stop nuisance.

Cafe standards need to be heavily modified or nuked.

Mine has a button to turn on and off.

Looks like you overpaid

Can we also remove the requirement that X% of refined fuel must contain ethanol?
Price of milk would probably drop a dollar a gallon just on that.

mine has it but it won’t engage with the clutch depressed. Also like everyone else there’s a convenient button to turn it off

The folks that pushed the idle stop on the car mfgrs need to be doxxed. They are at least as bad as Fauci with the covid vaccine and Mulvaney with the Budweiser commercials

Fwiw, EPA doesn't mandate this button.
The EPA allows this to the manufacturer as a workaround for meeting efficiency standards.
So, if the EPA removes the start/stop loophole they just make it worse on manufacturers unless they are going to lessen standards which doesn't really seem to be happening either.
So yes, this is actually worse for emmisions controls how the consumer sees them.

I’m making sure I can disable this before I order my new car. If not I might pick something different.

I can see CAFE standards being significantly reduced

it doesn't add any increased wear

maybe wears out a starter or something depending on how the restart is accomplished.
That would be the increased wear and tear. Include the battery/auxiliary battery too.

I think some cars fire off a spark plug to get the engine turning again.
That's not how an engine works dummy.

That’s a good first step.
Step two is getting rid of cylinder deactivation.

As long as the button to turn it off is right there, then I don’t care. I’ve got my wife in the habit of turning it off on her van. I’m surprised there are people who don’t turn it off.
