Just got a text alert that thousands in Baton Rouge might lose power if the flood water gets to the entergy substation. I pray this doesn't happen.

FYI. Entergy will be cutting power BEFORE water gets there...so expect shutoff within the hour from s Harrell's ferry to Florida boulevard

Is that a good neighborhood?

Yep, they cut us off about a couple hours before we flooded Friday morning. Neighbor said they were told they were turning it back on at 2 this afternoon but they didn't. Luckily my in-laws around the corner are on demco so they never lost power.

They have to shut it down if water is going to flood it.
It just seems odd that there is only one substation that has distribution feeders to a particular area.
Usually a utility sets up a redundancy scheme so that multiple feeders are available should one go down.

Absolutely nothing seems odd about Louisiana infrastructure and utilities. Whenever you think think there is no way to screw it up, just give them enough time and they'll find a way.

To think we could have that expensive ''all underground electrical system'' so you would never lose power...
Electricity and water make the perfect team.

Does this make entergy worse than att?

I would pack my shite and get ready to roll out...dealing with a flood is one thing, but I am done with staying in areas of extended power outage during the summer...

DEMCO is able to keep their system up to date for all 12 customers thanks to the Millions of Entergy customers who are forced to pay for demco's system via taxes. Then to think... Entergy has to give CLECO the power that they in turn sell to DEMCO (Due to a bad agreement between GSU, LP&L, and CLECO in the 80's) at a reduced price. Seems legit.
Think of how nice your lawn could be if you got $10,000 per month from the landscape company down the road. But wait... There's more! Then they were forced to give you a free lawnmower, and all the supplies you needed at half the price. Is that fair to to the other guys in your neighborhood that pay for bobs landscaping?
I work for AEP now, but love the DEMCO v. Entergy talks. There's a reason you'll see Entergy, CLECO, AEP, Centerpoint, Duke, The Southern Company, Edison, NRG help each other (I.E. Producers vs Takers). REA (Co-Ops) are a bunch of bloodsucking leaches that produce and/or add nothing to the grid.
Edit: DEMCO may send the producers leading VARS (Capacitive Volt Ampers Reactive which help the producers with their power factor; I.E. NOT Watts) before I'm corrected.

You must not be familiar with Entergy...

One thing I learned going through Katrina is that the rising water is bad enough, but it throws everything else out of whack.
Like ATT switches flooding and no phones
Like Entergy substations flooding and no power - even if your house is dry
Like chemical plant failures
etc etc

From what I've seen, the potentially affected area is S Harrell's Ferry, north to FL Blvd, and from Sherwood east to Flannery
