If her father is paying for the wedding STFU and accept your monogrammed toiletry bag.

I'm an only child, but I'm not a petty moron like the OP.

Don't lump us all in together.

I originally read this as groomsman gift as well. He's talking about the groom's gift. My wife's gift to me was not wasting anymore money . Unless you are financially well off (in that case neither of you would give a f*** what is being spent), then expensive wedding gifts to your significant other are dumb. Trust me, life will throw enough at you that you can use that money for.

I misread it too. I've never heard of the bride and groom giving each other gifts. Must be a new thing.

but my fiancé would rather a nice watch than an over-priced wedding band. Since mens wedding bands are a few hundred bucks, just considering that maybe I should fork out for something comparable...maybe.

I don't see the issue...

Oh...yeah I definitely read it as groomsmen gift.

Women don't have to get anything for the guy. They just get to have a blood diamond and walk into the sunset.

The only groom gift I got was the obligation to support a woman for the next 20 years and get some occasional sexy time.
I should've known it would be occasional when she took all her bachelorette lingerie back for some flannel nightgowns.

I thought the point of getting engaged was to get married, not who can get the most expensive gift?

Its definitely not to see who can get the most expensive gift, but if he went through all the trouble to pay for an expensive ring that I intend to have forever, shouldn't he have something that would serve the same purpose? Rather than a cheap band that he'll probably lose 4-30 times.
