Energy Secretary demands Energy Companies increase oil supply but wants them shut down

Wonder if the White House views the State of Texas as being run by petro-dictators and their policy is a way of killing off the influence of Texas on national politics.
CNN Video interview
"What we're saying is today we want that supply increased. Of course, in five to ten years, in the immediate, we are also pressing on the accelerator to move to clean energy so we don't have to be under the thumb of petro-dictators like Putin, or at the whim of the volatility of fossil fuels.
Ultimately, America will be most secure when we rely upon our own clean domestic production of energy...
We really want to see us move to clean energy but we also need to see this increase right now. And we are asking the oil and gas companies as well to diversify and to make sure that they become diversified energy companies. To be able to produce other means of clean energy because they have huge, deep pockets, they have a big availability to invest in the future as well as investing right now so that we don't see oil and gas causing the inflation numbers and people being hurt every day."

They want the oil companies to invest, produce more, and then close down. These people are nuts.

What is the White House willing to give in return?
O&G has nothing to lose in keeping supply the same.

The cognitive dissonance in that quote is wild.

This is what passes for logic with this administration and the people who voted for it. They're comically hopeless baggy pants stupid and the rest of us have to suffer because of them

Just think, two and a half more years of this.

It's a conundrum for the democrats, isn't it?

For this group, there is no objective truth - only their own subjective truth. We can wave a magic wand and transition over to "renewable" energy. I think they are either truly deceived assuming that their policies are not destroying the economy or they are purely evil.
Chairman Mao said that politics is war without bloodshed and war is politics with bloodshed. Why would anyone who has grown up in the United States want to allow for political power (read government) as the mechanism for the allocation of economic decisions and resources? The free market creates the best decisions and it completely undermines any prejudice. In a market economy, sales go to the best, most faithful steward, entrepreneur, business or restaurant. The market rewards wisdom and punishes foolishness whereas the government rewards foolishness and punishes wisdom.

Funny, on one hand refineries are seeing record profits right? They are in business to make money right? No refinery in the United States and any other country would want to have an outage right now. The local refineries are running wide open trying to make as many barrels a day as possible! Refineries according to the federal government are running at 96% capacity. I mean damn 4% more isn’t going to make a difference.

Do the math on that. You would be wrong, its substantial in economics.

No. They just live in a complete fantasy land devoid of human nature and reality.
Immediately upon taking office the majority party (i.e. Democrats) sought to decrease domestic production in an effort to move towards "clean energy". Unfortunately, that pain in the arse called reality got in the way, because while the powers that be could take action to decrease supply, they could not decrease demand. Thus, the supply has to come from somewhere. That somewhere is "petro-dictators like Putin".
So now that their absurdly unrealistic policies and made them incredibly unpopular, they want the big, bad, greedy oil companies to increase production...but not at a profit. Of course, we all know people go into business for purely altruistic reasons...not to financially enrich themselves.
Trump was FAR from perfect. But I also don't recall the US being "under the thumb of petro-dictators".
The move to "alternative energy" sources is fine...and welcomed. But it is a process. The technology has to continue to develop to make such a move efficient and affordable. Human beings just didn't all of a sudden invent a computer that can make phone calls, perform complex processes, take photos, etc. The first computers were massive and very limited machines.
In Democrat world these tremendous changes in technology should happen instantaneously (relatively speaking) in response to their latest "existential crisis". The country should just snap their collective fingers and run homes, cities, states on wind and solar power. A mother living in a small town making $35k a year with one child to support should immediately buy a $60k EV...even though she (a) doesn't have the money to do so and (b) the town in which she lives doesn't have the technology yet to support such vehicle efficiently. Of course, when you have "leaders" whose platforms exist only in a world of theory rather than reality you get incredibly stupid decisions

They think this will be “disrupted” like some tech messaging app garbage. Newsflash dem clowns, this is about thermodynamics and physics, not social media algos.
Look no further than California, such a leader in renewables that is has the highest electricity costs in the country.
Dems and the media also loved touting Germany as this beacon of renewable hope and how we are doing it all wrong in the USA…look at Germany now, beholden to Vlad and burning coal to stay alive. Lol
