Your employer is supposed to take care of you your whole life. You should have a good talking-to with them.
Now, go buy what you want with your earnings. No cynicism. You'll quickly understand what you don't know.

There is a reason some older people keep working: the health insurance

I'm not sure I know of many companies that offer health insurance to employees after they've retired from the company. The company I work for pays 100% of our premiums and a percentage of our family coverage if we elect it. But never heard of coverage being offered after you've retired. That's the reason most people work until they can sign up for Medicare. Insurance is so damn expensive.

Since I plan to live to be 245, maybe 300, I'll probably have to make bread well into my 180s.

My Dad got it but he was one of the few people that had a mandatory retirement age. It would be pretty crappy to force someone to retire and not offer them continued benefits.
I'm sure a lot of big companies offer a Medicare supplement plan if you work to 65 or continued coverage on vision, dental and other things not covered by Medicare.

I retired before 65 and just picked up coverage on healthcare.gov. The company offered continued coverage but because of divorce I missed out. It was actually higher cost than what I picked up online. Starting medicare this year.

Very rarely do companies offer that. This is nothing new. You have to buy your own if you retire early.

Agree, not common. And fully subsidized is rare. The exception that I know of is Huntsman.
I know someone that works for Huntsman and they offer paid insurance for retirees. It is a big part of why they have not left Huntsman.

Y’all make fun of poor people but think how rich you’d be if you didn’t have to pay taxes, for food, for health insurance, car insurance, housing
Us working stiffs are the real poors

Friends that worked at the state gets retirement healthcare coverage. Still have to pay about 50%.

Is what common, for employers to not offer healthcare or for employees to not know their employer doesnt offer healthcare? I am not sure I understand what you're asking.
Sorry, my wording could have been better, I was surprised by how many co workers were not aware of the fact that employee provided healthcare goes away when you retire. And I was hoping that I was wrong about this being a common business practice.

We have two people 74 years old, still working. Yet both stay on our health care plan and pay the premiums (30% of the total) instead of getting on Medicare. This blows my mind.

The car companies started figuring out how big of an albatross retiree health care was in the late 80s, and cut it.
These morons that want "free" continued coverage don't realize their salaries for their entire working lives would have to be 20-25% lower to deal with the anticipated costs. That's also the way to avoid getting hired if you're older than 50.

This used to be a benefit most employers offered, but that’s no longer the case
I have worked for several companies in my time, and I have never worked for one that offered this. I know people who did, but they all worked for a major oil company, and that required you to work for them long enough to qualify to retire with their retirement system. As far as I can tell, that all went away with the advent of the Affordable Care Act.

My employer does not offer. Was talking to other co workers and was amazed about how many did know that this was the case. Is this common? Both questions, employers offering and employees not understanding that they basically have to work till 65/medicare to continue having healthcare.
Are you asking about someone that retires prior to 65? Well, duh. If you don't work there any longer other than COBRA they have zero obligation to provide health care coverage for you once you retire.
I have never heard of an employer that continues to provide health care coverage after retirement.
