I've lived in DC for 3 years and I love it. The only downside is the COL, but it's easy to adjust.

Single girls outnumber guys here 3-1. Getting girls is not difficult in DC.

Got a buddy who just moved to Denver and he likes it. It's a booming city of people from all over.

Just my 2 cents.

The snow in Denver is very overblown. I work in the construction industry, and we've only had a few days where work was shut down. It's not the mountains, the front range snow is very tolerable. And it stays sunny during the winter, unlike the south. Though when it does snow, it stays around for a while, because it's so dry of a climate.

The saying here is 300 days of sunshine. The dry weather is amazing. 40s here feels like 60s in Louisiana.

Dc, Denver, or Austin all have a high cost of living. It's all pretty comparable.

Yeah I don't know very many people who have lived in DC proper (or better burbs) and hated it.

I wouldn't go to DC unless you're looking to get into a political type gig or work for some type of lobbying firm, think tank, or government contractor.

This is really a decision between Austin and Denver, which are both outstanding cities. It all comes down to what you like.

Austin is full of hipsters and old hippies. It has amazing BBQ, and a great music scene. There's plenty of outdoor activities nearby for hiking plus Texas Hill Country which is home to lots of wineries. Austin is also home to drunk UT sluts. It's hot in the summer time (dryer than NOLA) and colder in the Summer than NOLA, but relatively pleasant.

Denver is another cool city. It is very nice during the summer, but can get chillier than Austin or NOLA during the winter. I don't really find it colder than Dallas, but it can be a little snowier. Most of the snow, though, falls in the mountains. Living in Denver, you're about an hour or 2 from some really great ski lodges. Denver also has legal weed, which is inexpensive and high quality. Colorado is also home to multiple craft breweries which put out really good stuff.

So, it all comes down to what you like:
Outlaw Country, wine, and BBQ or skiing, craft beer, and legal weed?

Denver too. But it's probably more moderate than in Austin. Unless you nice to Boulder, which is where I find out I'm not nearly as overall as I thought.

Great advice

Denver also has a lot of good music, though probably bit bigger of a local scene. But I'm a musician, and haven't had trouble finding people to play with.

I also think Denver has better Mexican food. The hatch green chili sauce is the best tasting Mexican salsa/sauce I've ever had. It's technically New Mexican food. But the best burritos I've ever had were in Denver. Especially breakfast burritos.

DC is the third most expensive city in the country. Austin and Denver are cheap cheap compared to DC.

It's really any outdoor activity. Mountain biking, hiking, rafting, skiing/snowboarding, trout fishing. Anything outdoors, Denver beats Austin. Pretty much Austin only wins in music, imo, and even that's pretty close.

The way I see it...

Austin 10-20 years ago> Denver> Modern Austin>

DC

I have relatives who've been in Austin for a few decades. A lot has changed, and very little of that change has been positive for quality of life.

Party supplies, Denver is great. Beer is more expensive than in the south, but is so damn good.

The legal weed is awesome. I smoke regularly, so I went medical for price reasons. I bought an ounce of Flo (a citrusy sativa) for $100. The most I've paid for an ounce from one if the best medical dispensaries in town, was $180, but it was unbelievable quality. I've seen some trendy dispensaries charge regular American prices, but they're catering to an upscale yuppie clientele (one place advertises as the Apple Store of Dispensaries). You can also get coupons in local magazines. And as medical, most places give me a free joint or gram on my first visit, plus "member pricing".

I'd probably never leave the Denver area if it weren't for having all of my family thousands of miles away. So I'm sure I've I'll be back around the gulf coast. But it's very nice here, regardless of season.
