He can have plenty of cash. This is idiotic. Now, he can't liquidate too much, but I'm sure he regularly sells stock. Most of the mega-billionaires have regularly timed sells.

When reporters were sniffing around him last year, they were surprised at the almost Spartan state of his living conditions. He owns lots of expensive properties, but seems to mostly stay in small scale houses, especially when doing SpaceX business. His place near Starbase in TX is a small prefab house.
