The BIGGEST scam? No. There are bigger scams. But it's a scam nonetheless.

Oh, the irony of going green.

If you cannot secure a steady supply of the power source for something, you probably shouldn't buy it. So that part is easy to figure out.

Guess that omits California. A few weeks back they were requesting citizens not charge up their electric auto batteries because they needed the power for air conditioning.

Surely you people understand that when we have unusually hot or cold weather, many area's electric demand borders on overload of the system. How are you going to charge car batteries, when 90 percent have EVs?
I don't see any new plants under construction and it takes a few years to build.

Don't see it happening. You will be required to sit in the driver's seat, sober and bored, ready to take over if the autonomous system experiences some kind of failure.

There's no point to it.

A big 4-door sedan that does 0 to 60 in 2 seconds.

Yep, a total scam.

And people that park on the street and in parking garages do what?

so you're doing this?

Charging at Level One
The average car is driven only 40 miles/day. The Level One charger (which usually comes with almost any electric car) plugs into a dedicated standard house plug, and can deliver 12 amps. This means it will deliver 40 miles in an 8-hour overnight charging session. Most people have their car at home for much more than an average of 8 hours. So generally, even with this very slow charging, you will keep up. On the days you drive more, you won’t recharge fully, but as long as you don’t keep doing long days several days in a row, you will eventually make it back. (How quickly depends on whether you must limit charging only to off-peak electrical times.)

frick that. I'll keep my V-8.

I am not against EV's or 4 cylinder twin turbos like my wife's car but I love the sound and feel of my V8 when I drive my truck.

Yes it's a scam because even if the majority of people bought EV's and started using them everyday, we'd already be past the point of global demise, according to the climate czars. So what's the point?

As for premium brands, here is my Porsche EV. If you ride in it you will definitely not think it is a golf cart. The german engineering is absolutely incredible. Handles like any other Porsche and is even faster.

Typical "look at me" cali bullshite. It's a very expensive golf cart made by a marketing company. The whole fundamental idea of a Porsche is that of 16 Lemans wins and 60 years of the 911. The rest is complete and total marketing bullshite.

If you bought this car, I feel sorry for you.

1. You need a very expensive charger in your house
2. Your city/neighborhood does not have the grid capacity
3. There are not half enough power plants
4. We can't pull our heads out of our asses to decide what kind of power plants are safe to build (coal=bad nuke=war natgas=fracking)
5. Virtually the entire supply chain for batteries comes from unfriendly nations

1)Is installing a 240V outlet very expensive?
2)Meh, show me the math and you could maybe convince me.
3)isn't this the same as #2?
4)Who actually can credibly say that they are unsafe or bad?
5)depending on the type, a lot are currently made in china however there is a ton of r&d going into aluminum batteries at the moment that are likely to be a big game changer.

Also, far as I'm concerned, the value of a premium brand is out the window. Porsche's race cars, Cadillac's V8 and tailfins, Mercedes' engineering... all means nothing. It's a giant golf cart.

I mean they still breed stallions and have race horses, even if we no longer have horses and buggies. Don't worry ICE cars will always be around in one form or another.

Eta:240V, not 220V

Well considering you're flat-out wrong on over half your points, and seemingly unaware of developments that address the rest, maybe you should use your head less.

Current capacity can handle years of growth, and many EV owners also buy solar to both offset their consumption and get the maximum benefit of the EV.

I like Tesla. But this is a complete unknown. Especially by anyone on this board. Right now .0001% of the cars on the road are EVs. when that number turns into 100%, it will be an unthinkable load on our grid. Even with the .0001% of Green Thinkers out there.

A few posters did the math a month or two ago. The conclusion was that the grid load fears are way overblown.

In the case of Tesla if you want to charge your car to a usable capacity in 8 hours instead of 40 or 50 you must provide a dedicated 240 volt 50 amp circuit which means hiring an electrician, material cost, in some municipalities getting a permit, and buy the $600.00 Tesla wall connector.
Already have a 60 Amp service in my garage.

Previous homeowner had a ceramic kiln in the garage.

Mrs Füt’s (no pics) next vehicle will be an EV.

PS to the OP- Your contention #4 was that the US’s Energy policy was unresolved as to fuel (coal/nuclear/gas).

That has nothing to do with EVs. Red herring argument.
