The Green economy is largely a scam that plays on peoples desire to get along, and be nice. And it benefits politically connected people.
It works as a tax on business, and in the case of carbon taxes, it is a tax, and connected people get very rich of it.
ESG ratings are the same scam.

$50K is not that expensive for an automobile. I believe the AVERAGE vehicle price in the USA is around $37K…if they can get financing, the poors you speak of will have $50K autos all day.

I wish I could afford one. I’d have a Tesla and an electric F-150 if I could afford it. They will get less expensive in time. Kind of like flat screen HD TVs were expensive when they first came out.

As for premium brands, here is my Porsche EV. If you ride in it you will definitely not think it is a golf cart. The german engineering is absolutely incredible. Handles like any other Porsche and is even faster.

That said, if your place of employment and your regular destinations offer charging, an EV could still be viable for you.
Looking to the future, more and more cities are considering curbside charging infrastructure. Obviously some cities will lag behind.

The $600 bucks is for the connector only, does not includes other needed materials like wire, breaker, conduit, electricians time, and pulling permits if necessary.
At my house just the wire will cost over $350 bucks, other material, labor, ang the $600.00 outlet and it is $2k easily.

Right now it’s free, businesses that allow plugging into their power in parking garages are starting to look at what it’s costing them. My DIL works in a Seattle office building, they are going to institute a flat fee for those that charge while at work. In addition to a parking permit, if the car is plugged in it will require having another permit indicating they paid up.

I bet they shut it down quickly once they get like 10. Sure some companies probably wont care, but most will just not put them in when they realize the freeloaders are just wasting company resources.

Is this really an issue? I mean an EV charger is just a standard 240V outlet (like your oven) if memory serves. And they run at 32 amps or so. 240x32 = 7.7kW. That's not a ton of wattage and would cost less than $1 assuming 10 cents/kw. Even the higher amp chargers won't cost much more than that.

You are getting a shitty deal. It cost me $700 total for the tesla wall charger, 240v outlet, and cable to be installed. If you have entergy, they are offering a rebate to cover half of that $600 cost for the wall charger. It charges my tesla at 55 miles per hour.
Also to those asking. Older teslas, pre 2018 get free charging at super charging stations. Newer ones pay like between $6-$10 to charge up. If you stay at a hotel or something like that, they are covering the cost of the charge in my experience
