The answer is because they are just fun.
I would have loved one as a kid myself

At least they are outside in the real world and aren't holed up in the house playing video games.

I’m not there yet - kids too young - but i look at these questions with what’s to be gained
I do think modern kids need longer leashes. But when it’s constructive to their development and maturity. Giving a 13 year old a slow motorcycle to ride unsupervised isn’t in that category, IMO.
I expect a bunch of kids will die and the laws will tighten up and that decision will be made for me, TBH

13 year old kids need to be pedaling, not cruising the streets on a "motorbike"

All over my hood as well. They ride the little stand up scooters too. No one rides bikes anymore…or yield at stop signs.
Someone’s is gonna die, I am loathe to say.

I have no idea why no one is getting ticketed. These kids literally ride these things to school every day.

It’s out of control here too. All on the streets some without helmets, doing wheelies. Little assholes, like their parents I am sure.

Sounds like a law enforcement problem. Cops shut it down in my neighborhood, as they should. If people want to change the law, that’s a discussion we can have (I’d be against it). Until then, the laws should be enforced.

We have an electric bike gang in my neighborhood but it doesn’t bother me because I’m not a karen

Funny you say this. My parents had some kids in their garage and then a neighbors house had something stolen. The word on the street was that all the kids were from a neighborhood about 2 miles away riding electric bikes over and the Karen’s were upset . I laughed because it was easily a distance you could ride a normal bike.
Motorcycle riding burns a lot of calories. I’m assuming riding these do too.
I don’t have an issue with kids being kids, I too worry about them being idiots on the roads and getting killed. But I did similar stupid shite on regular bikes as a kid. As said, why are we complaining at least they are outside

Months ago, I posted on here about a 6th grader who crashed one of these on to a road sign and gotten a really deep cut under his eye. He bent at 2x2 metal post holding the sign back 30 deg. I got roasted pretty good for it. He took a ride the hospital in an ambulance.

About a month ago I witnessed a kid t-bone the front end of a car while riding on the sidewalk. The car was pulling out of a driveway and the kid hit it at top speed. They did the superman over the hood of the and rolled down the pavement. It was at one of the local charter schools and the school resource officer was right there so I didn't stop.
Finally last week I saw a kid blow an T intersection and was almost hit by a suv doing a u turn there (neither the car nor the kid looked.)
Personally I would not do it. But personal choice is a pretty awesome thing.

Another reason why so many kids are fat and will stay that way.
What ever happened to riding a damn bike?

Also, my son upgraded the controller and the tuttio now goes 52-55
He’s 11
As in who would really be at fault, the immature and ever needy kid or the parent without enough smarts.

My dad rode his motorcycle around town no different back in the 60s. The benefit is these are quiet for the neighborhood, the issue is they are quiet and you don’t hear them while driving.
I fully agree the police and neighborhoods need to police them. But I think boys being outside being boys is a good thing, and some minor law enforcement infractions to keep them in place is probably a good thing. Sometimes scaring them at 11 and 12 is better than at 17 and 18.

My middle school son told me Mondays are like fight club with kids walking around with road rash.
According to the police, our laws don’t address the e bikes and there is a big grey area.
Some of the kids are too immature to be riding what is essentially a moped without the road safety feature.

Agreed. Let those kids do their thing. We rode three wheelers everywhere when I was a kid.
I might even get one myself if the kids would let me in their posse. Seems like a pretty tight group, but I’m sure I could take them if I have to get jumped in.

If you don't change something, he might be 11 forever.

These and the scooters are everywhere here, we have a lot of bike paths and the kids fly on them and get hit by cars not looking crossing streets weekly

I've actually been seeing a few BMX bikes lately.
