He was a brilliant man- but it sounds like they've discovered a chink in his armor.

Is “Chinese” a race?

Einstein also derided the people of Ceylon, which is now known as Sri Lanka. In Ceylon, he wrote, the locals “live in great filth and considerable stench at ground level,” before adding they “do little, and need little. The simple economic cycle of life.”
Translation: Sri Lanka is a shithole...

Such a wonton disregard for those people. Shame on Al for being yellow and not saying it to their faces.

So one might say it’s a shite hole?

“Chinese don’t sit on benches while eating but squat like Europeans do when they relieve themselves out in the leafy woods. All this occurs quietly and demurely. Even the children are spiritless and look obtuse.”
quote:Again, why is this racist? He hopes that one race doesn't supplant all the others.
“It would be a pity if these Chinese supplant all other races. For the likes of us the mere thought is unspeakably dreary.”

I wish people would just stop for one second and consider the times people lived in, when they wrote shite.
Language is constantly evolving. There are terms that was acceptable 20 years ago, that are not today. There are words that are used in a completely different way than they were once used (example: people used the word gay as another way to say happy.. Today, it means a person who is attracted to the same sex).
And the world was much bigger back then. People were less exposed to other cultures so that played a factor as well. You can't read something wrote in 1920 and read it as if it is someone speaking today.

Einstein lived in a different time. Not everyone looks for racism in every statement made.

I have to wonder when observations become racist in and of themselves
Btw, none of that was racist. It would be like me saying that black people in New Orleans like to sit on porches

That's because they can do it comfortably, it's scientifically proven that east asians, or at least the Chinese can squat very comfortably for long periods. They're just built a little differently than us. Watched a video on facebook not long ago about the science of it, and it was from Vox or one of those similat type channels

Prepare to have Einstein purged from existence.

Can't judge people of the past by today's standards.

biased towards certain populations
Is not the same as racist. Being bias or prejudice against a certain group is not the same as racism

he was racist in his early life, especially towards Chinese people.
Is Chinese a race?

his thoughts on Japanese people, who he viewed in a more positive light

[Einstein] said that racism was a "disease of white people."
Also Einstein:
quote:
“Chinese don’t sit on benches while eating but squat like Europeans do when they relieve themselves out in the leafy woods. All this occurs quietly and demurely. Even the children are spiritless and look obtuse...It would be a pity if these Chinese supplant all other races. For the likes of us the mere thought is unspeakably dreary.”
That settles it: Einstein was a leftist, seeing as he gets a pass for his prejudgments.

Seriously. I mean, consider where Einstein was from and the era he lived in....If those are the worst selections from his diary, then let's just move on, nothing to see here.

Just because one is a genius in physics doesn't mean he has to be much of a person.
I don't see anything particularly racist in the OP, but Einstein was a shitstain as a father and husband. Read "Einsteins Daughter".
His becoming a moral compass as a result of Hilter is a bit of a joke. But he used his celebrity status well.

Jewish people have a tendency to project their flaws on Christians of European descent.
