It was first used on Tigerdroppings in 2004 by the germans. Of course in german, baw means "A whales vagina".

BRgetthenet and thibadeaux Tiger made Baw what it is now. We owe them a great debt.

"He's a good baw"

Slang for boy in coonass areas

Some Deep South areas say “bo” for the same slang

Source: the different coonasses and southerners that hunt with me yearly.

ChatGPT says the earliest usage it could find on here was Apr 2014, but states it appears to have already been around before that, but it can't access older posts.
I've heard it so many times I can't remember, but would guess it was already in used when I joined back in 2012.

It’s just Cajun slang for “boy”, but not in an insulting manner.

For example, “Do you know Mike?” “Oh yeah, that’s my boy”, but a Cajun would use the term baw rather than boy.

On TD it has morphed into the term for someone who is blue collar and country/backwoods.

Just walk on a construction site and you find the origins.

I've assumed it's a modern version of "good ole boy"

We need a thread revisiting the Baw Paw situation. That was one of the funniest and most pathetic things I have ever seen.

I know the term BAW has its own meaning here on TigerDroppings. But I grew up in the sticks and hills of WV. My paternal grandparents, great grandma and every great uncle and aunt called all nephews and male grandkids BAW and all the female grandkids, nieces SIS or girl in the most hillbilly southern country drawl. It's just how it was back then probably because there were so many kids they couldn't remember our names. But it stuck and now most of those grown up kids still do that, me being one of them. When my nephews were young they laughed and asked why I called them baw instead of their names. It made me laugh because that was natural for me and I had never even thought about it until then. For our family it's just a term of endearment.

But I think a grown arse man BAW is someone you would want to have your back when shite goes down. I've been on this site for probably 10 years or more but only registered and started posting a few years ago. But reading all those posts over the years told me there's some good ol' BAWS on here. I went to Marshall University and grew up less than 3 miles from where the plane crashed in 1970. But since finding this site I've come to love La culture, food and became and LSU fan. Y'all are good people.
