They followed the law and were annexed.

SG is following the law now. Let’s see what happens Saturday. If the vote is yes, let’s see if all parties follow the law.

This post represents the limited intellectual capacity of anti-St George troglodytes

I think they've been pretty clear that they too don't like the status quo, but don't believe that splitting up the city is the answer. The message is that we'd make more progress overall if we work together.

"We" haven't worked together in years. There's a certain demographic who isn't doing their part and shows no inclination to do so.
frick 'em. Let them do it on their own when they decide they're ready to move up. Those who already feel that way or tired of being held back by the ones not pulling their share of the load.

Can someone in the know tell me what the back and forth is on "no new taxes" and St. George? Forgive me, I live in a good parish, and have not stayed fully informed, but I saw a sign in Spanish Town "No new taxes, no St. George" and I'm wondering...

Are they saying that SG will tax the residents of Spanish Town? Is this random ST resident upset for potential SG residents?
Or
Is SWB and BR city gov threatening to raise taxes for those outside of SG in order to scare non SG residents about SG/cover the hole left?

I'm not trying to be funny, I'm serious. I'm just not fully informed.

When SG first came around, I was against it, and to be honest, it was because to me, that is BR (and it will still be BR to me tbh); but with time I realized that was silly/did not affect me at all/got turned off by the awful propaganda of those against.

Maybe the St. Georgians should be required to pay entry fees to EBR Parish to attend LSU games.

When StG passes, SWB & BR won’t have any choice but to raise taxes. The party on our dime is over.

Kip doesn't post on this board. You do.

And you're the one who said "that's not how it's supposed to work."

So, how is it supposed to work? If you don't know or prefer not to answer, just say so. I'd like to learn what was done that was wrong.

I think it is Spanish Town reading between the lines and knowing they will be fricked if St George leaves.

Spanish Town in general tends to be white, fairly affluent, and is smack in the middle of downtown BR so there isn’t a possibility of disincorporating from the city to join St George.

They will need to consolidate, lay off folks and adjust to the decline in revenues.

It’s not that hard really. C-P is a huge bureaucracy with too many chiefs and not enough Indians anyway. SG should give a good administrator the impetus to cut back.

Oh never mind...... need a good administrator, sorry.

Those signs are in the St. George area also. The opposition has stated that the proposed city budget is incorrect and the sales taxes generated within the St. George boundaries would not be sufficient to provide essential public services to residents and would have to be increased. Proponents obviously are saying their numbers are good and taxes will not increase. The change would certainly have a major effect on the BR budget also and could cause taxes to be increased there, but since BR residents aren't voting on the incorporation, those signs aren't intended for them.

There's always the option of trimming the budget and spending less money.

how, specifically?
I know your question is rhetorical, but I want to answer it anyway.

People who don't pay the taxes won't get to decide how to use it for their own personal benefit anymore.

Their argument is really that simple, and I've yet to hear a single solution presented other than "stay. we'll figure it out together this time. for reals."

I was actually trying to set up a similar trap. Just like with the "kids" argument, if you over-divert resources to NBR kids, you screw over StG kids. The "screwing" he referenced is based on the current status quo that completely screws over those in StG
