Depends on the jurisdiction. In Baton Rouge, yes, there is a judge on duty, and they use an e-warrant system on their phones.
The fact that he didn't have an officer sitting on him is odd, though.

How? If he went to the hospital from the police station, via ambulance? And then the cops caught up to him as he was walking out? An ambulance doesn't just drop you off in the parking lot... That would be a liability if you collapse on the way in to the hospital on your own. Or if you trip and fall getting out the ambulance. I'm not buying it

TBH I'm not sure I could walk heel to toe in a straight line for ten feet or stand on one leg for 30 seconds completely sober.

The other day I came across something with that dude Stale Cracker.. I think the dude is entertaining, but I knew he was a state trooper at one time, got into a boat wreck or something and ended up getting fired, but I saw a reel was about his situation and googled it.
He was saying that he knew of other state troopers who had been arrested or used their position to get out of a DWI.. Then said that made more DWI arrest than any other state trooper.. Maybe his last year or the last few years he worked. The talked about the situation he was in and said something like "Who doesn't drink a lil bruski when they are driving. Grab one after work on the way home".. And I thought "how can you enforce something when you do the same thing they are doing?".
As a general rule, for obvious reasons I think drink and driving is irresponsible. Many people have been killed by drunk drivers, but everyone is different and some people can drink throughout the day and be fully functionable and if they are stopped by the right (or wrong) cop, they are going to get a DWI. But its a law and you roll the dice every time you drink and get behind the wheel, but there is something about someone enforcing a law that they themselves break. And I know people have to separate their job with their personal life, but depending on one's job there are things they cant do.. or get caught doing in your personal life. That's the type of shite that pisses people off.
