Yeah, it is kind of entertaining though. To the person who mention LP schools, I heard they had a pretty good distance learning plan in place for when the shutdowns originally occurred (just anecdotal).

My guess is that they would continue with that. The whole “just buck the system” thing just isn’t going to happen.

I'm amazed how many people think all teachers are in a union, and then which one in Louisiana there is 3 of them teachers can join plus multiple that are larger....

My mom has been a teacher for 25 years, never heard her once mention a union

You heard wrong. They were one of the more ill-prepared parishes.

Ironically that will leave them with the least remote learning options which may be a plus for teachers and parents.

I mean, the main reason to join one is for legal protection. They’ll back you in a dispute of misconduct.

Many teachers in LA don’t actually belong to one. Most of those who do aren’t involved beyond paying their dues.

Yeah, it might have been ascension. But then, most were quicker to act than EBR was. But like I said, anecdotal evidence, so take it with a grain of salt.

Yea that’s the only reason I’ve even remotely entertained the idea of joining ours.

And tbh it actually does a good job of fighting for teachers in negotiations with our district. But I get the benefits of that now without paying dues and I don’t plan on doing anything stupid to need the representation so I’ll keep my nose out of it.

People should just openly revolt at this point. Besides just the economic impact of childcare, You cannot have a generation of kids who missed 2 years of school.

I believe each parent is ultimately responsible for their child's education. It will be your fault if you allow your child to fall behind. Home schooling is an option out there for many. Because of the cluster frick I believe this will end up being for public schools, I'm home schooling my kid for this upcoming school year. Between home schooling and private tutoring, I believe my kid will be just fine. Hell, he might turn out to have learned more in this setting than in the traditional format.

I was homeschooled for a semester in 8th grade because my parents were fed up with the public school system. I hated it because I couldn’t stand being by myself all day so I went back in the spring but I came out the other end way ahead of my peers.

Bitch teachers definitely care.

Their silence says otherwise. I’ve yet to hear a single teacher voice concerns over the academic damage being done to “the children” via the farce of virtual classes.
Funny how educators can fill a school board meeting or protest outside of a school when they feel their pay isn’t enough. But when it comes to the kiddos staying home...crickets.

They could but they are far from capacity so it would be a bluff

Someone posted an email from the St. George principal. We received a very similar email ( also
Using the phrase “Rest assured”) that schools will be in-person at the normal start time; however, it included the qualifier that they would not open if illegal to do so. Pretty sure that the Diocese gave all principals a standard letter to send out.

CHS seems more certain that it will open based upon its emails.

What will private schools do? Will this kill them off? Who would pay private school prices for a "virtual learning environment"?

Ours will be open, so just the opposite

Not a teacher, but you come off as a jealous bitch of teachers. Idk

That’s pretty funny. I’m not jealous of teachers at all. I guess having someone provide an argument and calling out their hypocrisy may appear as jealously to you.

Holding teachers in high regard is not a default position. Their purpose of doing it for the kids is always their go to line in an argument except they can’t say that in this instance. Now it’s teachers have no control. It’s a cop out. I’ve even seen teachers advocating not going back until there is a cure.

The crazy news here is that if the EBR school system is afraid that the kids will take the virus home and kill grandma, grandma for the vast majority of these kids is around 35-40 so it's not even a threat to them.
