I don’t think our local Catholic hs is planning on every day everyone be at school. I think there’s a group one/group 2 and will alternate days.

This age isn’t so bad as kids can stay home alone but the younger grades oof. If they do this and you’re a parent with kids in different groups then you could potentially be looking for childcare every day in addition to paying tuition.

So fortunate that our youngest is in college — that’s a challenge enough but she can handle it for herself.

Look it’s not ideal but highschool kids could stay home and learn remotely. It wouldn’t be fun, and it’s not as good as being in class, but it’s possible.

This type of learning is impossible for elementary and middle school kids and based on the evidence of hospitalizations and spread of and from kids, should not even be considered.

This is mostly what Ascension Parish is doing. All preschool-5th grade kids will go to school daily; the middle & HS will do a hybrid of in person & online. It makes more sense.

Sigh. I’m not worried about my soon to be senior if she has to do school from home. She did it March through end of the year without missing a beat but my soon to be 8th grader hates school in general and had to be kicked in the arse each day to do virtual learning. They both go to private and the oldest’s school emailed us last week saying their plan is to have butts in seats Aug 6 but I’m worried that the elementary school is gonna go to some virtual learning hybrid. Hope my job lets me work from home.

We are SMHS and SJV. SJV sent out an email saying they were looking at all options. I hope it's the option of being at school.

teachers will essentially have to teach from their homes

100% agree. Has to be held at same time as class, attendance is mandatory. I bet you CHS-BR will do that if not back in school.

My youngest is a senior this year at Baton Rouge High. I look at this as basically ending her HS education halfway through her junior year. She has a teacher ( math ) who basically gave them no real assignments after February. It’s ridiculous. The students who are into school are getting so screwed long- term .

One of the best men out there trying to help EBR schools. He was my assistant principal when I went to Broadmoor, before he went on to Tara, then to Sup. He has taken more crap with a smile on his face than most people I've had the privilege to know.
I hope he finds a quiet place to retire to and enjoy his family.

If schools are looking to do this, and I’m talking about private schools, they need to seriously step up the work load
OMG i hope not. SMHS was so heavy on the workload. My kid had school everyday from 7-230. At one point she said this is way more work than what they do in person. She about had a breakdown when it came to her AP/Duel Enrollment classes. When she had a break in the day she was doing homework or studying.

Our daycare/summer camp that has been open the entire time just closed for a week because a teacher tested positive. This is going to happen on a revolving cycle until we are all starving in the streets or until we collectively tell the government and do what we need to.

After Zachary, I’d heard people say that if anyone could fix EBR schools, it was Drake. The man gave it a shot.

This is a nightmare for teachers. Students don’t have to be held accountable, be the mask and social distancing police all day, can’t interact with students, half the time to learn material if we have alternating schedules.

We don’t want this. It’s not about “sitting at home”.

Also as a teacher I can promise you that’s 100% not true. I love teaching because I love being around my students. They piss me off a lot of days but I care about them. The last thing I’m in this for is the check. If I wanted money I’d actually put my meteorology degree to use and be miserable in the process.
