All the metro ATL counties are doing it too. My BIL who is a teacher in one of them says it's because the kids will look up at the sun and blind themselves and the schools don't want to get sued for not preventing them from looking at the sun. Apparently there are some lawsuits from 2017 that schools want to avoid.
This is the last eclipse over the continental US for the next 40 years so it won't be a precedent or regular occurrence.
I'm fine with it. Here, they are all coming off spring break anyway, so it's just one more day off.

Let everyone go outside for 10 minutes, look up, then go back inside to learn.

Sounds great. I hope the kids to get experience what many people rarely get to see. They'll never forget this day. I see no issue with this. As an adult, you should applaud this but I know many here are too cool to allow children to be children. Crack that whip losers.
Bunch of uptight get off my lawn dumbasses. This is it folks....it's your one time through this thing called life. Maybe enjoy some of the journey. Some unhappy MF's on TD nowadays.

These figs didn't do this when I was in their shitty school system from 1998 to 2011

My kindergartener is viewing the eclipse with his entire school. They have glasses and whatever other devices for everyone. Private school in JP.
Haven’t heard what our school is doing yet, but this is the way it should be. Structured environment where you get to teach them about astronomy.

Oh, for frick's sake. I remember viewing an eclipse AT SCHOOL through welding glasses and paper with a little hole poked in it.
ETA: Don't poke a hole in a piece of paper and look at the sun.

I'm with you bro! Have an up vote my boy!
My kids are now teenagers and we're taking off a couple of days to drag their arse to Dallas to witness the eclipse in totality. I have great kids and love spending time with them. Every chance I get to use as an excuse to spend more time with them is a good thing in my book. As we get older, we'll look back and glad be glad we did it. Based on a some of the negative posts I've read in this thread, it seems like there are a lot of people that just don't like spending time with their family, which is a damn shame.

I remember having to stay inside my first grade classroom and watch Freaky Friday during the 1984 solar eclipse.
(Freaky Friday was good tho)

The kids will not be able to go outside to view the eclipse. For fear of them causing damage to their eyes.

thats a lot of words to avoid saying the uneducated idiots there are too dumb to know not to stare directly into the sun for a half hour

Where were these eclipses when I was going to school?
Posted on 4/4/24 at 7:40 pm to PGAOLDBawNeVaBroke
The last one was in 2017, then before that it was 1979.
Posted on 4/4/24 at 7:53 pm to John88
Actually it’ll probably be more of an education than staying in school. It’ll be an 80% eclipse. Hopefully someone will explain what it is to these government “students”
