Woke up to gunshots out in the road early this morning, 3:30am or thereabouts.

1 dead hispanic lad in the street and the other off to hospital. Perps off into the aether.

The victim’s vehicle was parked and he’d clearly gotten out. Texas plates on the truck.

If I had to guess it started on Florida, the shooters tailed them into the neighborhood, amigo stopped and got out to fight and that was that.

Front yard has been a crime scene all morning, victim’s entire family watching on. Pretty surreal.

Nothing good happens out after midnight I’m afraid. Prayers for all involved.

Tell me ab it.

Since when did they stop covering up dead bodies? Fella was there on the road for the better part of two hours, thankfully obscured so the kids couldn’t see from inside.

America voted for “hope and change” twice and BR has voted in their leadership several times. Enjoy these fruits of the seeds sewn! There’s going to be harvest aplenty.

It's a judgement call based on balancing interest. Preserving the crime scene and not introducing anything that could be used to raise a reasonable doubt versus the need to shield the public from the brutality of mankind.

Personally, I prefer that the body is covered. It lowers the intensity of the scene and makes holding the outer perimeter easier. The attention whores and social media jockeys come out of the wood works when the body is left out in the open.

I will never understand the desire for some people to travel to the scenes of violent deaths in an effort to get a photograph.

We wonder why kids in Baton Rouge are desensitized to violence. Taking them to the scenes is the start of creating the culture that we all despise.

It's more lack of parenting than government. This state wants government to do everything.

We need to keep these animals in jail, for sure. But somehow there has to be compassion, patience and caring brought back to all communities.

These years of hate have set our state and country back to the 60s.

Need to keep the Mexicans in Mexico would be a great start. Too many culture clashes here now.

RIP Amigo. If we follow the stats, he was likely killed by you know who. He’ll be missed by his family very much. His wife and kids likely depended on him financially.

Same can’t be said about the statistical perps. They’re probably teenagers. I’d love to see the average age of violent offenders the last 10 years. It’s noticeably dropped, just by following news articles.

Anecdotally, I think it has dropped a bit, but not as much as the news would have you think. “Youth crime” is covered a bit more aggressively than it used to be, which gives that impression. And before anyone reads into that to try to see what bias I’m accusing them of, I’m not, beyond the bias of knowing the metrics of which kinds of articles get eyeballs.

Here in Houston, we had some kids that looked like middle schoolers commit an armed robbery of a bank. They showed the surveillance video and they looked 15 years old max. If I'm not mistaken, they rode their bikes from the nearby neighborhood. At least they didn't carjack someone to get there.

I’m sorry, it’s not the new Governor’s fault.
The current mayor sided with the street urchins, gutted BRPD, and created the mess we have now.

We are short of cops
The cops are low on morale
We don’t have a facility to lock up the perps
The judges are too lax
The DA is not leading the charge p
