But many don't and realize this is a mostly American cultural phenomenon and not really based in orthodox Christianity.

I agree and plead guilty as charged to stereotyping a super conservative evangelical as being in the "not a drinker" category. Right or wrong, I will not offer a beer to someone if I know they are a conservative evangelical to avoid any awkwardness unless they first show an interest in drinking.

Do people of faith not drink wine?

There is a MASSIVE difference between drinking a glass of wine and getting drunk.

I don't even know what that means.
I guess I grew up going to the church of the anti christ.

Church of Christ is a denomination that i would call incredibly strict in their view of sin and salvation.

CoC and Baptists are probably the two denominations mostly against alcohol in the US.

You seem to fail in explaining to us where alcohol is a sin. Keep trying...

Maybe they actually read their bibles and came across Psam 104:15 which reads that God gave "wine to gladden the heart of man".

Considering John 2:1-11, your interpretation is wrong.

Ok. So I guess a man who has sex with other men willingly isn't a homosexual.

Look, I drink but I don't sit around being willingly blind or deceiving myself

So I'm not going to say this applies to ALL Churches of Christ, but many do believe drinking any amount of alcohol is a sin.

From one CoC website

quote:

One who wishes to please God will not drink any alcoholic drink, in any amount, for any purpose, at any time! Remember, the process of becoming drunk begins with the first drink. Those who are guilty of drunkenness cannot go to Heaven!

the arguement I have heard from pastors who were anti-alcohol would say something to this effect:

What does God define as drunk? What if God defines drunk as being in any sort of altered consciouness? Your body is a temple for God, it should never be in an altered state nor should it be desecrated.

I certainly do not live by this creed but I can respect people who do as it is their self determination to abide by those constructs.
