Kind of have to agree with you, Nugget. With the abundance of available transportation in today's society there is no reason anyone should be out driving drunk. That is just totally reckless.

Because when someone drives drunk they are getting in a 4,000 lb hunk of steel and hurtling it down randomly down the road.

You keep saying random, but that's just not the case for all levels of drunk.

quote:

Due to their inebriation, they cannot control where that 4,000 hunk of steel goes or what it hits.

That's not true.

quote:

They're not aiming this 4,000 hunk of steel at anything or anyone.

Not true.

quote:

But by deciding to drive drunk, they're still hurtling a chunk of metal down the road knowing they cannot control where it goes or who or what it hits.

Not true.

This is you being illogical.

quote:

When someone randomly fires a gun down the road, they're likewise hurtling a chunk of metal down a road. They're not aiming at anyone or anything. But by deciding to fire the gun randomly, they're still hurtling a chunk of metal down the road knowing they cannot control where it goes or who or what it hits

That's not the same. No matter how many times you repeat it.

I don't get your laissez faire attitude on drunk driving lunchbox. I've gotten a DUI before and even I don't have the same attitude as you do about it. Hell, I want the legal limit to go up, not down.

Even at .08 a persons ability to control a vehicle is deminished. Go back one page, read the link provided in the bottom post and educate yourself.

quote:

That's not true

You say it's not true that a drunk driver cannot control where their vehicle goes? OK, post a link proving that someone who is drunk can indeed exercise full control over a vehicle. Back up your claim. Otherwise shite up and admit you're again talking out of your arse.

quote:

Not true

So you're saying that they are aiming the 4,000 lb chunk of steel at people? Are you aware you're contradicting yourself? Or do you honestly beleive the reason drunk drivers kill people is not due to their being unable to control their vehicle? Rather it's because they have control of their vehicle and just choose to collide with other cars?

quote:

This is you being illogical

Are you again claiming drunk drivers can control their vehicle? Again I ask you to post data to back up your claim.

quote:

That's not the same. No matter how many times you repeat it.

Then posting something to refute my point backed up with facts and stats. All you've posted thus far is repeated "that's not true" bullshitvwithout anything to back up your argument.

My argument is that drunk drivers cannot control the vehicle they're driving. My argument is backed up by decades of studies and stats that scientifically prove drunk drivers indeed do not have control of their vehicle.

But you say this is untrue. OK, then give us your proof to back up your claim. And again I'll remind you that just you saying "that's not true" is not proof of anything past the fact you refuse to see the truth that's staring you right in the face.

I think there should separate levels for DUI.

.05-.08: something like a harsh traffic ticket. maybe a $1,000 fine and if you get 3, you face jail time.

.08-.12: fine & lose your license for a year. multiple DUIs increases your punishment.

>.12: mandatory jail time.

By your own description that's defined as drunk.

Uber and Lyft aren't in every town. For example, Shreveport just got Uber approved like two months ago and it's a city of like 200,000+ people and the city across the river, Bossier, still doesn't have Uber.

Bossier still has cabs. Still not an excuse. Action taxi might be a drug ring, but it's better than a DUI or killing someone.

Why should you be fined for being under the legal limit?

Is this the thread where a bunch of fat middle aged baptists equate drunk driving to murder?

My biggest thing is the ridiculous blanket statement that these guys in here are using that every single person that has ever driven drunk are the worst of the worst. People make mistakes. Most people learn from them.

I've posed this question to the OT before. Wasn't met with much enthusiasm. I think it's a great idea

do you also think it is a great idea that all phones have a censor that shut them off if they detect they are in a car that is moving?

If you get behind the wheel while legally drunk, you are a danger to everyone else on the road, and the penalties should be incredibly severe.

But, I would say the same about distracted driving.

No, but it is the one where at least one middle age in shape southern baptist equates killing someone while driving drunk with murder. That ok with you?
