it stands now, I don't believe an individual can be charged with murder or attempted murder for injuring or killing someone while driving drunk.

It's vehicular homicide in Louisiana and carries up to 30 years. I've seen several 20year prison sentences handed down for this charge. And I believe 85% of the sentence must be served before parole.

No excuse in the age of Uber and lyft

Uber and Lyft aren't in every town. For example, Shreveport just got Uber approved like two months ago and it's a city of like 200,000+ people and the city across the river, Bossier, still doesn't have Uber.

You're free to drink, not drink and drive.

I thought that was already well established?

No I'm not. You're the guy equating driving a car to shooting a gun.

Go do some research on the affects of alcohol on someone's 'reflexes and motor skills with a blood alcohol level of .08 and you'll see how absurd your argument is.

I would suggest you do that and then try to tell me it it is exactly the same as shooting a gun down a street.

I can care about it without being irrational.

So everyone needs unnecessary equipment in their car?

Should we all wear body cams 24/7 as well? Just to be sure you know.

I hope all the tipsy/drunk drivers kill relatives of the idiots who defend it.

I would argue that a device that keeps drunk people from driving is not unnecessary. Especially if you could calibrate the breathalyzer to the legal limit of BAC which I have already stated should be higher.

That would save a lot of people a lot of trouble.

FYI, calling my point "illogical" or "emotional" over and over is not refuting or countering my point. In fact all it proves is you disagree with it but cannot come up with a logical argument to support your beleive why I'm wrong.

So body cams for all then. What else do we "need" to keep us safe?

If you say so Darth. Driving a car at 0.08 and shooting a gun are the same thing. Absolutely undeniable.

How would body cams keep people safe? Do they have the ability to stop a crime from ever occurring?

Why would breathalyzers? They can be bypassed just like anything else. So now you're just hindering the people that weren't going to break the law anyway, just to MAYBE stop some bad apples.

Because when someone drives drunk they are getting in a 4,000 lb hunk of steel and hurtling it down randomly down the road. Due to their inebriation, they cannot control where that 4,000 hunk of steel goes or what it hits. They're not aiming this 4,000 hunk of steel at anything or anyone. But by deciding to drive drunk, they're still hurtling a chunk of metal down the road knowing they cannot control where it goes or who or what it hits.

When someone randomly fires a gun down the road, they're likewise hurtling a chunk of metal down a road. They're not aiming at anyone or anything. But by deciding to fire the gun randomly, they're still hurtling a chunk of metal down the road knowing they cannot control where it goes or who or what it hits

Because the fricking car won't start if you blow over the legal limit. Nobody is saying you automatically get jail time if you try to start the car and blow over, it's if you're caught driving while over. And how many people you know that can bypass the whole system? Especially while drunk. You know that those companies get notices when you tamper with the breathalyzers like that, right?
