you are saying the other posters logic is horrid? Using your logic, crimes happen every day regardless of penalties so why do we even have laws?

The car is not randomly driving odwn the road. If you'd like to consider how inebriated the person driving is, sure. But at the legal threshold of .08, they aren't anywhere near the same thing.

BTW: Nice try on trying to use the lame "emotional argument" straw man there.

You're being illogical, so your argument must be emotion-based. You can't logically say they're the same thing.

If you want to spin it that way, sure. But all you're doing is agreeing that his logic is bad. So thanks for agreeing with me.

I think penalties for first offense are pretty harsh. Anyone, esp young people, can make a mistake. After that they should become a lot harsher than they are now because once reality hits it's inexcusable to repeat the process.

With that said, the expectation for people to make rational decisions when they're hammered drunk isn't very high so I doubt things would change regardless of the penalty.

Absolutely agree with this. If it's just a DUI and not a crash, then 1 year in jail and a stiff fin

So if I go out, have enough to drink to maybe get slightly buzzed or relaxed and I get pulled over for, say, a busted tail light...

Are you saying I deserve a year in jail and my life completely fricked?

Well, considering I didn't say what you claim I did, I'll just disagree.

So, build more.

Screw drunk drivers. I have absolutely no problem with them never seeing the light of day again if they cause a crash which injures someone else and most certainly if they kill someone else.

1st offense.... lose your license.

2nd offense... year in jail.

3rd offense... never see the light of day again, except from the prison yard.

Call an uber, call a friend, hell, call your grandma...

There ain't a better feeling in the world than popping the top off a couple coldies, radio up, and windows down on a long interstate road trip.

So, not only do you like to drink and drive; you also like to inflict your (most likely) shitty taste in music on the rest of us.

I've posed this question to the OT before. Wasn't met with much enthusiasm. I think it's a great idea, however. PD's and MADD would absolutely NEVER let that happen though. They'd be out a lot of money.

But, if we did that, if you are ever popped for a DUI, the crime should be much...MUCH stiffer.

You're talking out of your arse. Go do some research on the affects of alcohol on someone's 'reflexes and motor skills with a blood alcohol level of .08 and you'll see how absurd your argument is.

Furthermore, drunk drivers oftentimes go way over the .08 line. The guy I encountered Monday was completely shite faced. The only thing that kept him from killing someone was dumb luck and the grace of God.

I don't know if you have a wife and kids or anyone you care about or cares about you. But if you do, how can you care more about allowing some shite head to be able to drink and drive than keep your loved ones safe?

If someone wants to get drunk, fine get falling down blind drunk all you want. I don't care. But do it at home and stay off the roads.
