The cartels have the knowledge and the network to operate in the the shadows and black markets throughout the world....they do not have the strength to go head to head with a militarized group like ISIS.
There are continents and oceans separating those two. This isn't two neighbors going into a ground war against each other.
Who do you think will have an easier time traveling around the world to frick the other one up?
I vote cartels in a landslide to that question. They own fleets of container ships through umbrella corporations. They own (or run) major ports all over the world. Their members can fly without being arrested and profiled and put on watch/no-fly lists.
And then if ISIS wants to attack them, where do they attack? The Sinaloa mountains?

Ill take the cocaine/meth/marijuana funded cartel. ISIS bombs a bunch of innocent people or beheads a few individuals to scare the public. The cartel kills anyone that gets in the way of their plan or doesnt play nice, using guns, knives, machetes, chainsaws, you name it.

ISIS doesn't have to be in a location to recruit new people. Islam is everywhere. It just takes a few angry Muslims to become radical and spread.
Also in regards to this thread, if we are pretending like all the cartels are teaming up, I'm assuming all the Islam terror groups are teaming up as well (which would be way more realistic than the cartels helping each other)

Who cares who wins as long as they kill each other off?

If we're talking a straight up battle between the two, ISIS would obliterate the Cartels. That is unless the Cartels can come up with an answer to a military force equipped with weapons like this....
And thats on top of their infantry fighters equipped with standard weapons like these...
And that's not even counting the suicide bombers.
Here's a full list of what ISIS has in their arsenal... LINK

ISIS, easily. They have trained, battle hardened fighters.
They also have superior fire power with armored vehicles, tanks, artillery, light machine guns ....... ISIS is even in possession of captured war planes ( im sure they could train a few guys to fly those planes), which they do not use over syria and Iraq because they would be shot down immediately. I would love to see the war between these two groups of assholes, but although the cartels are ruthless i just dont think they have what it takes to defeat ISIS. ISIS is still alive and well right now after being bombed nearly everyday for the past year or two.

well you would assume wrong. Iran is actively fighting against them in Syria, not to mention ISIS practices Sunni Islam while Iranians practice shiite. i dont see them getting along. Some part of the corrupt Iraqi gov. may support ISIS though. Saudi Arabia is also bombing ISIS so i dont they are helping them, but who knows for sure.

right
and Mexico is also "fighting" the cartels

Most of the world has ISIS outgunned, how's that worked so far?
Posted on 3/24/16 at 2:32 pm to theenemy
Exactly. Last time i checked the Cartels did not have tanks, armored vehicles, and heavy artillery. If they went head to head then ISIS prevails easily.

They haven't yet.

They did. The United States Army.

I doubt they know how to use half of that equipment for one.
You know the Afghani freedom fighters were commonly known to misaligned their sights and scopes because they couldn't read Russian/ didn't know how to use them.
I doubt ISIL is that far ahead as a fighting force considering it's not rolling over the middle east.

And ISIS doesnt kill anyone who gets in their way or doesnt "play nice", as you put it? The last time i checked beheadings were a pretty ruthless technique, which is employed by both ISIS and the Cartels. ISIS executes anyone they come in contact with who does not support them. It doesnt matter if youre a christian or their own family. Both sides are equally brutal but only one side murders people in the name of their God and cannot be reasoned with in the slightest.
