That definitely gives them an edge. But people saying ISIS would obliterate them and saying cartels aren't ruthless are out of their minds. And the cartels have a much more reliable and sustainable source of income. It's closer than most in here are saying

ISIS would wipe them out in seconds, they have way better weapons and way more people. More importantly that that though ISIS fighters live for battle, are far more experienced, aren't scared of death and are even more ruthless.
Probably the exact opposite is true

but ISIS also has billions of dollars and controls several governments
the difference with ISIS is the fanatical belief system behind it

Start trying to frick with the booger-sugar and you will see fanatical. Not to mention, as was stated earlier, that's a deep rabbit hole if you start looking at government involvement. Including our own.

ISIS controls the drug trade in the ME and Africa

I'm just going to assume that Saudi, Iraq, Iran, etc support ISIS in some way

Anybody that says Cartels have lost their damn minds.
The cartels are nothing more than armed thugs that maintain their power thru corruption.
ISIS are militarized radicals.
ISIS would wipe the floor with them
You realize that Los Zetas were founded and are ran by former Mexican Special Forces, right?
Take it from someone who clashed with the Islamists back in the day on their home turf - the Islamic State wants no piece of that. Their line soldiers are mostly a bunch of kids hopped up on chemicals.

That's news to the cartels then.

Alot of people point to the idealism, but I'm pretty sure in the rural areas a lot of the muslims are only compliant because ISIS has the power, much like in SA and Mex.

los zetas are ruthless animals, id open line at zetas -175 over ISIS

ISIS controls the drug trade in the ME and Africa

Yeah I don't see that being a particularly lucrative drug market

The cartels employ a whole shitload of former special ops guys from Latin American armies. Those guys are definitely not scared of death and are definitely ruthless. And much better trained.
bullshite.
They have a few tactical guys spread out, but most are just thugs.
They are a rag tag group with strong leadership that is it. They rely on poor untrained thugs that are willing to do what they are told and gov't that want take them on head on.

This is why The War On Drugs is a massive joke and one of the worst things the USA was ever involved in.

more than you think
obviously nothing like the Cartels, but ISIS has oil money as well
like I said, they both have money and government support
I just think that ISIS edges the cartels by idealism

Zetas aren't that strong anymore. Between rivals and the DEA they have been knocked down pretty hard.

You have just described ISIS, exactly.

As far as their ability to govern the territories that they take over? That speaks for itself.
