Probably way more population in the cartels.

Coca leaves don't grow and process themselves. Huge infrastructure and has been organized for way longer than ISIS.

This would be like when they imported mongooses into Okinawa to control the local venomous snakes. The mongooses ignored the snakes and nearly wiped out the bird population.

Cartels can have their soldiers juiced on some high speed chicken feed and blow giving them an edge on ISIS

Materialism versus Idealism. The latter is far more dangerous, so I give the edge to ISIS.

Most of the cartels are probably catholic too, thats a nice added angle I didn't think about. Dumb and poor people can be easily exploited with either IMO. They just want something better than they have now and to be a part of something.

fanatical ideology.

Exactly! Thank you. This is what makes them far more dangerous. The cartels are materialists. They do what makes money, and they will go to any means to do it, BUT ONLY as far as it makes money.

ISIS is backed by an idea that has no boundaries. It doesn't matter if it doesn't make money. All that matters is bringing the end of western civilization and making radical islam the supreme law of the world, AND KILL ANYONE WHO DISAGREES.

It's not even close.

ISIS would wipe them out in seconds, they have way better weapons and way more people. More importantly that that though ISIS fighters live for battle, are far more experienced, aren't scared of death and are even more ruthless.

Anybody that says Cartels have lost their damn minds.

The cartels are nothing more than armed thugs that maintain their power thru corruption.

ISIS are militarized radicals.

ISIS would wipe the floor with them.

The cartels employ a whole shitload of former special ops guys from Latin American armies. Those guys are definitely not scared of death and are definitely ruthless. And much better trained.

Because cartels keep a much lower profile people are really underestimating them in this thread.

I think most understand that the cartels control billions of dollars and several governments

but ISIS also has billions of dollars and controls several governments

the difference with ISIS is the fanatical belief system behind it
