No they have an extensive trafficking network, but they are not as strong militarily as TV makes them out to be.

ISIS.

Religious fervor trumps lust for profit every time.

Cartels power is derived from them killing family members of those who oppose them.

They would not have the ability to go head to head against a religious radical militarized group.

Again, I don't think you realize how far reaching the Cartel network is. Especially in recent years with their need for arms and this countries thirst for illegal drugs.

As far as ISIS's military strength. In the beginning they had trained military soldiers because a lot of them were Ex-Iraq army. Nowadays, they are taking over territories and recruiting children. It reminds me of the Somali National Alliance. But on a much larger scale.

Not always. Many of them have a "no killing of women and children" policy.

I've talked to locals that tell me they'll give an opposing cartel's hideout a chance to evacuate women in children before the show starts. ISIS would just bomb the whole thing and say "inshallah".

Again, that network is built for trafficking drugs and money. Not for fighting religious zealots.

By the way ISIS flaunts their shite on social media, I'm assuming they are a paper tiger compared to the Cartels, who try to keep more of a low profile.

Cartel wipes them out IMO.

Cartels.

They are far more powerful globally than people realize and are insanely sophisticated. They outsmart the best of the best of government agencies on a regular basis.

I would say ISIS has a slight advantage simply based on pure hatred.

Are we talking about ISIS's shock & awe ability or their battlefield capability?

Some of the cartels still use LINK. (Granted I get what you are saying. Radical Islam/Idealism is a major force)

It probably helps when a faction of government agencies are helping you.

Also, let me rephrase, ISIS would win a regional ground war. More people and they have military ground equipment.

Cartels would win in a global conflict IMO. They have political clout (more than you think) in countries all over the world, not just 3 or 4 in the middle east. They have fully functioning wings of their enterprise in countries like China, Russia, etc.

This too. 9/10 countries in the world would secretly support the cartel over ISIS.

Don't be duped, those ISIS leaders are as much about money and power as they are about religion.

Sure, the dumbass suicide bombers are all religion, but not their bosses.

It always boils down to money and power.

Which is why they so easily recruit teenagers to blow up themselves. "Hey, we'll make sure your family has food on the table if you devote yourself to the cause". It's the same old scheme.

The cartels have the knowledge and the network to operate in the the shadows and black markets throughout the world....they do not have the strength to go head to head with a militarized group like ISIS.
