Drove onto LSU campus today - remember that student that got hit?

Had to go to LSU today to give a presentation. I now know why that student got run over on the first day of classes.
It is absolutely unreal how almost every kid walking around has their phone held in front of their face and doesn't even look when crossing the street. It would be bad enough at the crosswalks but they do it elsewhere as well. I realize that cars are supposed to yield to walkers on campus but one would think the walkers would care enough about self-preservation to at least look at the cars when crossing.
Not to mention that I was almost in two wrecks in the parking lot by students driving while staring at their phones. The combination of drivers on phones and walkers on phones is going to turn out lethal before it is all over.
Damn I sound like an old fart. GET OFF my lawn you damn whippersnappers!

Many LSU students have been hit by cars on campus over the years. Even before smart phones.
IIRC a student died in front of the DKE house in the 60s from being hit during the day.

Ehh, when they laugh, just look them in the eye with a steely gaze and remind them that they'll have $50k in debt when they get out of college and be stuck in a shitty job, but the old guy who's getting PAID to do the job they covet will be in that position until he's 80 and paid his debts off decades ago.

I was just as distracted in my day. But instead of my phone, I was staring at all the hot LSU girls. Wouldn’t make it to class some days and it wasn’t bc I got hit by a car.

A possible solution would be to design cars so you have to drive them with smart phones and make it so you can't do anything with the phone but drive when the car is running other than by blue tooth / voice command. Of course the unintended consequence would be they would just buy two iphones and not be able to afford the interest on their student loans when they get out of school because they have to pay for two phones.
